Hello, I have a problems with my 06 frontier LE 4x4. Every time you turn sharp to the right and hit a low spot or bump in the road, I have a loud nock that coming from the drivers side front end area. You can even feel mine through the steering wheel and pedals also. I've had it at the dealer two times and they replaced the shocks the first time and now they can't find anything wrong with it but the problem got worse with the new shocks. I'm getting told now but the dealer that the noise is suppossed to be there and theres nothing wrong with the truck. Now I'm no smart guy but I know there shouldn't be a noise like that coming from a new truck. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, its when you turn to the left not the right. I did get under it today and check everything I could put my hands on but the only thing that I found that may cause the problem was the drive shaft. I could pull it in and out and it would make a similar noise just not as loud. I figure it may be my problem but not sure if it's suppossed to be that way. Thanks again for any advice.

07 CC 4WD LB with 7K miles, I have the same problem! Get a loud thud from
the front end when hitting small bumps in the road and entering driveways
and parking lots. Has got much worse in the cold winter weather. Will have
the dealer check it out but it sounds like they will most likely not be any
help. I am now going to post my views on this truck in the general forum.

Try tightening the bolts on the end of the anti-sway bar.  They may look and feel tight but can make the noise if not tightened all the way at the factory. If it is that, it is annoying but essentially harmless!

ok one thing there is guys. is with the anti lock braking system is managed on single system for each one. and it might not be the problem but it could clear up some confusion. i have an 08 frontier and it bacame winter and i though this was a problem but when i hit the brakes or something i heard a knocking noise not all the time but when it seem to slip it would. its your anti lock break system kicking in and it will sound like a knocking noise and you deff feel it in the pedals. but its nothing to worry about its expected when all your brakes are managed alone.

hopes that answers some questions.

Thanks for the help, I torqed every bolt I could get to and found nothing that was cause for alarm. I have noticed that my problem in starting to come from the center also with my truck. I liked Nissan but starting to loss faith in their service and well aren't they suppossed to be the proffessionals??? Go figure I seem to know more about automotive maintenance then any of them I've talked with. I will continue to look at my truck until I find the issue and I will post it when I can. Thanks  again

I have the same problem as cool4x4man with my 2007 Nismo, but opposite sides.  Every time you turn sharp to the left and hit a low spot or bump in the road, I have a loud nock that coming from the passenger side front end area.  The dealer has looked at it once and couldn't find anything.  It doesn't really happen all the time, so the dealer couldn't duplicate it.  But, when it does happen it is very annoying, especially since I only have 10k on the truck purchased new.  It almost seems like it is related to the sway bar, since I have to be turning and hit a bump only on one side to create the noise.  It can be quite loud sometimes.

It sounds to me like your half shaft (or axle as some of you are calling it).  I've had this problem on other trucks in the past an it was the half shaft.

I've also heard that there is a TSB for half shaft problems on the 05+ frontier, though I have not actually seen this TSB for myself.

Sorry its a little late to give you your answer, but here goes..

I had the same issue on my Navara D22 (2004)

When the steering is on full lock there is a steering stop bolt which touches a plate.

So when your parking or turning on full lock and go over a bump you get a grinding squeak / clunking noise!! right...

On my vehicle they fit a domed chrome plated plastic nut covers and heavily grease the contact plate and the nut. So basically when on full lock the greased plastic rubs against the greased plate.. = no noise.

After a few miles of wear and tear the grease is normally dried out and the plastic cap worn away, so you have metal to metal contact.

To fix it.. buy new steering buump stops (plastic covers) should only be a few bucks form the dealer, replace these and heavily grease the contact points...

I also adjusted my bump stops down a little bit, in another forum i was told to set them at 25mm not 35mm it gives you a little more turn on thevehicle before the grinding takes place.. (But adjusting your steering turn is not for everyone, so make sure you know what your doing first!!!).

I am no mechanic, but it took me about 30 minutes a side to fix the issue, careful with the WD40 oil when freeing up the bolts... dont spray it onto your brake discs!!! you will find the bolts are a bit of an animal to free up.. but the fix is really easy!

Good luck

i have that in my 02 and the dealer told me that there r some plactic caps that work as bumper when u trun ur wheel all the way ether way., and they will break off easy. I have gone 3 years without them and have had no problems other then the noise. Other people i have talked to with xterras have the same issue to.
