Hello all

I am new here, and I was hoping you could be of some help.

I have a new 2008 frontier crew cab 4x4 Long bed. This truck was
purchased to be towed behind my motorhome while traveling.

I knew from the beginning it needed some special parts to able to towed
4 wheels down with an automatic. A company call Remco makes drive
shaft disconnects that allow most nissan trucks to be towed.

I found out today that they make a kit for the short bed crewcab, but they
now state the long bed is not compatible. Their response it the U joints,
and splines (sp?) are different.

This seems a little odd. I would understand the length of the drive shaft
would be different, but did nissan change the spline and U joints too?

Any assistance would be much appreciated as I would hate to have to sell
this brand new truck (taking a huge $ hit).

Nissan has been doing some radical changes over the past couple of years and it would surprise me.

There should be a way to put the transfer case into neutral to free everything. There should be something listed in the owners manual about flat towing.

Your option would be to go down and unbolt the driveshafts from the pinions, tape up the joints, and tie them off out of the way with safety wire.

That would be a bit of hassle on a daily basis.

As for placing the transfer case in neutral, there is no way (as far as I can
tell) to do that with the electronic system.

Have you totally read the owner's manual? My Highlander is 4wd and in there it states how to put my transfer case into neutral for flat towing. Usually with the electric transfer cases, it's a matter of hitting 2 buttons at the same time, or shifting into a certain range, then hitting 2 buttons at the same time.
