I have noticed that my battery (no-name made in Mexico) has been leaking
all over the place quite badly. I was wondering if this is common, a result of
overcharging (faulty alt. reg) or just really rough roads. I have been trying to
source out a dry cell, gel cell, or AGM type battery but the stupid cable setup
with the power regulator and all the fuses built into it will not alow a battery
post to be inwards more than 1.75"!! How dumb does a guy have ot get
before he can graduate as an engineer? Not only does it require reverse
polarity batteries, but it can onlt take wet cell types. Does anyone know a
retrofit solution? I really want and AGM type battery. Can I rework the
battery cables safely to allow more reach or even to reverse their locations?
The fewer connections the better. But to eliminate versatility in the name of
compact and tailor-made is no trade in my opinion. PLease help.

I ran into the same problem when I was getting a battery for my Maxima. There is a Optima red top battery that will work. I'll have to go out and take a look at it to see which model it was. Check back later this evening.

I have alreadt orderd and tested the Optima. The posts are too far inboard for the silly cables to reach. Every breed and brand of AGM battery is the same. The only one that might work is the Odessy (not sure on the spelling). But it is $400!!! Plus it has less reserve and it has the same street life expectancy. I don't need 1200 CCA. If I could somehow mod the battery cable ends to make then reach I would go for the Optima in a heartbeat. I hear the Orbital Exide batteries are awesomeas well. ANyhoo, any helpfull ideas would be really welcome. If you can get the Optima to reach tan please let me know how.

I guess the easiest way would be to fab new cables. It's not too hard, and even some parts stores will do it for you.

I can do it, my only concern is that he cables are not just cables anymore. There are about four fuses and a power regulator built into them right at the connector. I have been trying to source out some post extensions so I don;t have to mod the actual cables, but so far no luck. I was hoping to maintian the factory fuse set-up too. PLus any mods are in danger of voiding the almight warranty. I'm still working on it and honing my soldering skills.
