My 2006 Frontier came with the factory installed tow hitch.  The Titan is advertised as having a brake controller prewired as part of the package.  The Frontier does not mention this.

I know with either truck I need to have the controller installed, but I am more concerned about the wiring on the Frontier.  I don't want a travel trailer dealer splicing wires trying to get it to work.

The prewiring should be there. All you should have to do is wire the nissan plug to the controller.

Your Frontier should have came with a pigtail connector... usually left in the glovebox.  One end of the pigtail plugs into your harness and the other has open ended wires meant to splice into an aftermarket brake controller.  If for some reason you do not have the pigtail it can be obtained from the dealer for about $15.

I recently had a  brake controller installed on my  05 Frontier  4x4.  The trailer dealer had to rewire it as the Nissan installed wiring did not work.  Wonder if anyone else had this problem? - Reese2 stamble();

There was actually a recall on certain 05/06 frontiers where the harness was wired incorrectly... you could have gotten that fixed for free at the dealer.  (Doh!)

Does anyone know what was wrong with the wiring? I plan to start towing and I'll need to get a brake controller... I don't really want to take the truck into the stealership, they might decline the warranty due to upgrades...?

I posted previously about the wiring problem.  I don't know specifically what the problem is.  The camper dealer who corrected the problem stated the following on his work order:

Factory installed pre-wire not functioning. No 12V charge to trailer battery.
No signal from the brake controller to the trailer brakes. All fuses ok. All relays install properly. Have power to the brake controller from battery and from brake light signal.  Inspected all easily accessible wiring under dash, under hood at 7 way plug and along frame. No problems found. After conferring with customer, we wired brake controller and charge line from scratch by passing factory installed harness. Retested charge line and brake controller functions. All ok now.

2 hours labor @$60/hr.

Sounds to me that some of the wiring worked, but not to the brake controller or from the  truck battery to the trailer battery.  I had a Prodigy brake controller installed, but I doubt that the brand matters.

Hope this helps.

Regarding the recall mentioned in another posting, I read the recall and my truck's VIN was not included.  As I remember the wording of the recall, it was to protect the truck electrical system should an improperly wired trailer be connected to it.

I have a 2011 SV 4x4 that came with installed hitch and
light connector. Looked under steering column can't
find any pigtails. Has anyone installed a brake
controller that particular model. Should I look in
passenger side kick panel?
