Guys,  I wanted to check and see if anyone else has experienced a noise (grinding/whining) that come from the front left wheel area when the main drive wheel spins (right rear)?  As some of you know me and my truck has been in an accident (see: General: Look out for Sweet Old Ladies  http://www.nissanfrontier.org/forum_posts.asp?TID=995&PN =1&TPN=1 ) a month or so back and I do not know if this noise is a result of the crash or is it is common with Frontiers.  I have tested this by putting the right rear tier in snow and spinning it.  It does it every time.  Let me know what you think.

I'm on here looking for a posting similar to yours.  I have an '05 frontier LE 4x4 and I've noticed the same thing (no wrecks in mine though).  I hear something kind of grinding when I'm in 4 wheel drive and step on it in the snow. (I feel like it's the same noise as when the ABS kicks in when stopping in snow) Even with the DSC off, it's like a system is activating when it senses tire spin and causes that God awful ABS noise around the left front wheel well.  My dad has an '05 Titan and it does the EXACT same thing.  It is kind of clunky sounding on such a slick vehicle, sounds like you're breaking something, but I think it's just some sort of normal sound unfortunately.  Anyone know more about this that could explain what's happening, is it the ABS system kicking in, or transfer case or something?  Thanks!

... It might be an electronic ABS based traction system appling brake pads the the wheel/wheels that is spinning faster than the slower ones. 

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer!

ok

mine does it too, i was just out playing in the snow with it,and i noticed the noise its the transfer case.

its all managed through  the transfer case, braking system included,  wich would explain the grinding when brakes are applied, and when one wheel is spining,  like a sound of tugging on wires.

i knopw where the sound is coming from but i cant say that its suposed to do that? and im guessing if alot of people have it, then its just the transfer case and thats just how it kicks in or disengadges.
