Now I know that exhaust, i.e. which is the best blah blah blah, these mufflers suck...those mufflers suck is always a fairly hot topic and people generally have an idea of what they like, and as it's been pointed out before, that since our trucks aren't "high" performance vehicles, that sound is an important factor as well, nobody wants a raspy sounding truck really. (well at least i don't) I was trolling on the internet and found some data pulled from a magazine about different mufflers tested on a single vehicle and the data printed as far as numbers w/in a specified RPM range, for both HP and torque. Keep in mind the test vehicle was a mustang and was not stock, but it goes through different mufflers from open exhaust, to several different brands and gives comparison data, take from it what you will and with a grain of salt, but it might give you some idea of that most of the mufflers seem to be pretty close in overall power/torque gains over open exhaust, the difference being in what rpm ranges they peak, again, all on this test were fairly close

just go w/ whatever is cheaper, or sounds the best.  the difference in horsepower is going to be so little, because of the vehicle we're dealing with.  its not a drag car set up to run 11's, were driving a truck.

That was pretty much my point with this post, tho it has been said before and this is an extreme illustration. This is not a high performance truck, now I know a lot of us wish it had more power and more performance parts out there, and there are some nice options for a decent gain (i.e. SLR's package) but as far as exhaust you hear a lot of people pounding the pulpit of magnaflow or flowmaster or whatever, and quite frankly you can see that even on a high horsepower vehicle the difference between these mufflers is so minimal, the choice becomes what sound do you like. Granted muffler is not the only deciding factor in upgrading or performance boost in the exhaust system, but you know what I am getting at. All these mufflers produced the same amount (roughly) in gains over no muffler and in very slight rpm ranges for the peak power/torque outputs. You'd have to analyze all the data graphically to get a better picture. Anywho, I just found it an interesting illustration for what others have been saying about performance gains on a muffler.
