I have a 2000 frontier w/KA rated 143 hp. I would like my truck to perform like a early 240sx w/155 hp. Compresson on late model is 9.2-1 What other than cams will bump it back to early specs? I see that also early 240sx had intake runners on top while fronty has them below. Does any body know the exact changes involved? Is there some web site that someone can refer me to?

        Thanks Tom

The people that would be able to best answer your question is those at Jim Wolf Technology. www.jimwolftechnology.com  The make most of the stuff I've seen for the KA motors.

I can help here...

You need to understand that different year ka24de's in the 240sx had different cam durations.  If you find a 90-94 (s13 chasis) the cams have a 240 intake 248 exhaust durations.   The 94.5-98 (s14 chasis) have 232 intake 232 exhaust cam durations.

They did it this way for a reason.  On the s13 chasis the engine had a smaller mafs but larger cams, on the s14 they went with a larger mafs and smaller cams for emissions purposes.  I swapped in a set of s13 cams into my s14 ka24de and gained 8-10 whp on the dyno.  The entire power band shifted over and the engine was alot more resposive.   This was in NA format.  When I boosted the ka24de in my 95 with those s13 cams I got nearly 20whp.  This was confirmed by a good friend of mine who had a similar car/engine/turbo set up.

The only problem I am aware of is the cam gears on the 240sx and  frontiers are different...single and double row.  I am unsure if swapping the front covers and cam gears would fix this problem.  I do know that the motors are nearly identical.  I put an s13 chasis head on a s14 chasis block and had no problems.  There is also the oil galley issue...the s13 cams have an extra set of oil galleys that need to be plugged in order to work in the later ka24de's

I am really anxious to mess around with this vg33e and see how much I can squeeze out with bolt ons.  I am hoping there are alot of crossover parts from the earlier Z cars.  Lightened crank pulley, cam, short shifter, etc.  I've searched around and didn't see a whole hell of alot for our trucks performance wise.  Mabey I'll luck out with the z stuff.

Z... nope.

But you can look here for some goodies.  www.importperformanceparts.net  A hidden place that offers some HP engine kits.  Or you can have them make up a set of pistons (importperformanceparts.net is also Flatlander Racing)  www.jimwolftechnology.com has a couple of goodies, but you should know that already from the 240sx.

Jim Wolf Tech also figured out the problem with the cams, you'll notice they have a file in the tech support section covering it.

Or here's the link to it.  http://jimwolftechnology.com/wolfpdf/CAM%20INSTALL%20INST%20 FOR%20KA24DE.PDF

The idea came to me while I owned my 02 with the KA24DE to use some 2nd gen 240sx goodies.  But then I started working on my Maxima with the VG30E and ended up trading my Frontier in.  Though one thing has me a little tickled here... didn't the first generation of 240sx have the KA24E?

Any chance you have a pic of the vg33e manual shifter unit, I need to see what one looks like.  I am hoping the vg33e tranny uses the same manual as the vg30e that came in the z. This long shifter in my truck is driving me nuts.  I can tell if they are the same just by looking at it, well if the picture is any good...lol

actually, the VG30DE cam in the the 300zx, a big difference than the VG30E in my Maxima.  Oh, and my Maxima uses the old rod system, I believe the truck has the cable.

Thanks for the inputs, I guess I 'll look into some after market cams, I know Jim Wolf, and brian Crower cams are out there. It's a starting point.

JWT is over priced and gives marginal results.  I've used his ecu tuning as well on my ka24de in my 240sx and it is very rich and conservative.  I used it in both na and forced induction and wasn't impressed.
