I just purchased a new 07 Crew Cab SE 4x4 Long Bed. I love the look of the truck and the utility of the bed, but I am getting annoyed with the steering. The steering wheel is slightly titled to the left when going straight down the highway, so I'm thinking that a "simple" alignment can fix that. However, it seems very difficult to maintain a straight line on the highway (I feel like I am constantly making small corrections) and the steering doesn't feel as tight as I would like. Is this how the steering feels for those who haven't had problems? Reading this makes me wonder if I made the right decision to buy Nissan.

I also have a 2006 crew cab LE, I have an unusual noise when i turn the wheels left or right and hit a bump in the road. Is this a common indication that mine is going bad? does anyone have this same problem?

For those that are not in the know...
... The three major settings for front end alignment are caster, camber and toe-in
Caster is a setting that helps the front wheels to return to going straight after being in a turn. Normally the caster is set by tilting the turning axis of the wheel a few degrees to the rear at the top. Too little caster and the truck will want to wander especially on flat roads with little off camber for rain drain-off. Good front end mechanics are hard to find!
And remember, not all service writers are experienced mechanics.
When the alignment is properly set the vehicles are supposed to slightly drift to the right.
A. Most highways are built high down the center so that water and spills will drain off.
B. If a driver falls asleep at the wheel the vehicle will drift to the right away from oncoming traffic.
If you have a serious pull to the right it can be corrected by a good front end man. Been there done that
Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

What led me to this forum was the fact that I'm tried of dealing with Toyota. Some people here seem to think Toyota has better quality but sad to say they're NOT any better. It seems like the over all quality of these Japanese cars are getting worst each year. Maybe Toyota, Honda and Nissan are employing Ford's ex-employee.
Anyhow, i was gonna buy an 07 CC SE frontier but after reading this forum, it made me change my mind. I guess I'll just have to keep my car for now until i hear a resolution from Nissan. Assuming there will be one.

sixmagic;
Thanks for joining and post your thoughts!
Remember even in the worst brands of the modern vehicles less than 20% have a lot of real problems.
... My ‘99 Grand Cherokee sure had more than it’s share of problems. While under warrantee the Jeep service was good but after warrantee expires $$$.! I think Toyota and Nissan are the best choices.
... I tested the Sentras that we bought against the Corollas and the Sentras were better plus even being cheaper. The same was true in my case when comparing the Taco to the Frontier. This year I feel Toyota is getting to big and powerful as a car company and that would also cause me to look at the other brands.
... It is apparent that Nissan screwed up on the First of the new Titans with crumby brakes and Dana rear ends that are up to the quality of the Dana 44s in my ‘76 Wagooneer. But I believe Nissan will get it all straightened out.
I’m keeping my ’99 Frontier because of it’s size. My Hard Body King Cab was a hair to small and now the new Frontiers are a hair too big.
Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
There was a time when some people got rich buy providing a better product at a lower price.
Now they get rich by ripping us off and paying off the politicians. Can you spell DEREGULATION

This is for mike. I know of the kit they told you your truck needs, its called a cam bolt kit. "05 and up are not factory equiped with the ability to have alignments done. Awesome eh! So this bolt kit can be bought from Calmini if you want a better price. How greta is that, a vehicle without an alignment! Might help you out.

Just purchased a 2007 SE and love the truck. BUT, I took it on the
interstate and felt like I was going to be stopped for a DUI. Granted, I
was able to stay within the lane but it was a constant battle. I have just
over 500 miles. There have been no problems on the local roads under
50 MPH. I am going to call the dealer tomorrow and will post their reply.

I've got a few more miles now - about 1000. I am a getting a little more used to the steering on the truck, but it definitely takes getting used to and it does take concentration to keep the truck in its lane when on the highway. Overall, I find driving the truck tiresome if I have to do a lot of it.
The steering wheel has been slightly off-center since I bought it which really annoys me. I took it back to the dealer and they spent 4 hours with it and basically I notice no change (if anything its worse). I searched online and found that I might be able to adjust the centering of the wheel by adjusting the tie rod length on both sides. The paragraph below is verbatim from a post on another website (http://clublexus.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-13467.html). Has anyone tried this on our truck? I was going to try it this weekend. "You can easily fix it yourself by adjusting the tie rod length on both sides. You need to be sure that you lengthen one tie rod exactly the same that you shorten the other. For example: To adjust the steering wheel clockwise, you would need to shorten the tie rod on the drivers side, and lengthen the tie rod the same amount on the passenger side. Accurately mark the position of the tie rods to the rod ends using a marker, some tape and a pencil, some white-out, etc., before loosening the jam nut. Make small adjustments, and re-check the centering of the steering wheel each time. You can use the points on the jam nut as a gauge for how much you have adjusted the tie rods. For example: Adjusting the tie rods 1/6 of a turn will move the steering wheel only about 3/16 inch. If you screw something up, just put both tie rods back to the positions you marked before you started. Note - You can also adjust the tie rods very accurately using feeler gauges between the jam nut and the rod end. Just loosen the jam nut a couple turns, and measure the gap between the jam nut and the rod end with the feeler gauges. Make sure the jam nut does not rotate on the tie rod while making the adjustments (mark it with a marker, white-out, etc., or tape the jam nut in position on the tie rod so it doesn't rotate). Then adjust the tie rods as described above, using feeler gauges to make the left and right adjustments exactly the same (of course one shorter and one longer)."

WHOA! Hold up there. Don't even think about trying that. Of all the ways to centre your steering wheel, that is not the first thing to do. It would accomplish the same thing as just turning your steering wheel to the centred position while you were driving. But if that worked then you wouldn't have a problem, right? Alignemtns are tricky things to do, especially on our trucks. There is caster, camber, toe in and tie rod lengths, and very last...r&r the steering wheel itself to correct and final changes. Face it, if your truck drives a straight line and your wheel is not, then your mechanical alignment is correct, and your wheel was installed crooked. They should fix thos for you. I would call that warranty. Sorry to jump on you, but what you are suggesting will only lead to a straight steering wheel and a turning truck. Who knows, maybe the setting proceedure for your steering box wasn't followed properly at the factory. Although, I am not very familiar with r&p steering setups.
