My o4 4x2 xe crewcab 5 speed is begging for bigger tires. The stock is 265-70-15. Could I fit anything bigger without lifting it.   Perhaps a 31"? Any suggestions for a bigger tire with out replacing my rims or lifting my truck? Im not too worried about my speedometer

The dealer looks as it this way.  Your speedometer has changed, with the slightly larger tire, you now are going just a little bit faster than what your speedometer says.

kcidmil has a point and so do some of you....the fact is..its going to depend on the dealership...if your dealership is filled with schlongheads, then you could get boned on an issue, now i can see the point in not having time, money or inclination to fight a warranty claim, again that's gonna depend on the dealer, because if they provide the service and then file it to the manuf. that's who they get reimbursed by for the work. now tires depending on how big, can and will affect how hard your tranny/ engine blah blah blah etc work because of the added weight and need to get that extra load going, a dealer could ....COULD (read carefully before you go snapping off at this) claim that any damage to your truck could have been prevented by not going bigger, but again...it will depend on the inclination of the dealer to fight those. if they think they will get reimbursed for it...i'm sure they don't give a rip about the mods.

Your speedo will be slightly off, and any warranty you have is gone.

Hello everyone,

Owner of a new 06 Storm Grey SE Crew Cab,

4x4 and 6 speed...

Just a comment on the "voided warranty"...

This means that ANYONE that puts on snow tires, which usually are a different section height (ie Taller) will void their warranty?

Comments on the truck... what a great vehicle!

Gentlemen;

... Let me add a few thoughts and look at it from the dealer view point.

(A) I believe dealers get paid less than flat-rate for warrantee work.

(B) Some warrantee work is on the manufactures of the radios, tires and etc. In these cases some dealers will only warrantee these items if they sold you the vehicle or want your future business.

(C) Oversized tires weigh more, have more aerodynamic drag, and lift the vehicle causing more under body aerodynamic drag. So besides showing less mileage on the odometer, which in part controls the life of the warrantee, the oversized tires cause extra wear on the braking system. Also a little extra power I.e. wear in the engine and driveline for the additional weight and air drag of the tires and lift. Sure it may be minimal but it is there. As a whole modified vehicles are driven harder and that could influence a dealer.

Most dealers would tend to over look small modifications as long as Nissan pays the bills. Warrantee is like insurance, the more claims, the higher the price of the product!

Personally I cranked the T-Bars, added one inch blocks in the rear, and 31x10.50x15 BFG AT- KO's but didn't have to take it in for warrantee problems. I did have a lot of warrantee problems with our '99 Grand Cherokee.

Just food for thought...

Have a good one and  CUL.. Don S..

Owned a 99 Grand Cherokee myself when they first came out...HUGE POS!

A/C kept going out, the creaks and rattles, and the drivers seat was meant for someone 5'6!

The first year of most new/major updated vehicles is usually the worst. The 99 Jeep proved that.

I would go to 245/75-16's.  They are almost exactly the same size in circumference.  I looked it up and there is a 3 revolution difference per mile.  The 245/75-16 is a more approperiate size for the 7" rims that are on your truck.  The 265's tend to roll the tread in, and lift the out outer portion of the tread so the tire wears more in the center. I put the Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires on mine.  the traction and ride improved a 100%.

The website for the tire size calulator is:  www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

i would go with the new tires, your changing the profile, not the rim size and not anything else, it will be slightly a larger tire, not enough to notice, there is a federal law called the magnusson act (basically says the dealership has to prove that your modifications have damaged the vehicle BEFORE they void your warranty)
