...Back in the mid 1950s I  had a BSA Golden Flash 40 and a BSA Goldstar 30.50 in the bed of my 1952 I-6 GMC DeLux cab pick-up and a "Three Rail" bike trailer with three scramble racining bikes on board.

This is the trailer wiring i got with my Frontier.

lakota,

as far as mounting in series vs stand alone, wouldn't you benefit greater in that set up as you will not be putting the ATF back through the radiator, allowing it to heat back up again, now i will grant that exposure time will be minimal, but if you are installing a cooler to cool and manage the life of ATF as far as oxidation due to high temperatures and also the shear effects in the tranny, it'd make more sense not to expose it to that heat again prior to entering the tranny, no? I would be interested however, to see the temperature differences in various setups, i.e.

1. temp sensor on return from cooling core w/o tranny cooler

2. temp sensor on return from cooling core w/ tranny cooler in series prior to entering the cooling core

3. temp sensor on return prior to entering tranny w/ tranny cooler in series after cooling core

4. temp sensor after tranny cooler mounted stand alone

I will concede that in colder climates, unlike we have here in Texas most of the time, having the tranny cooler prior to the core might be good to maintain good operating temperature. however, don't some of the coolers have bypass setups where if it is below a certain temp, than it doesn't enter teh aux cooler?

Frontyfan;

... Good thinking but fantasy sensors and valves are things that can go wrong and add to complicated installation and expense.

Even though coolant the temperature entering the radiator at the top may be over boiling (212 degrees at sea level pressure) there is a temperature drop as it passes lower in the radiator. So there can be a drop of 30 degrees where the A/T cooling core is located.

... I drive easy until my truck has warmed up a bit. And I drive where some Texans fear to go.
