Manual transmittions always seem to get better milage that the autos
do. I figured out that when driving the auto - you have to try
and keep the Tacometer at or below 2 especially when
accelerating. doing that brought me from 18 mpg to 21+.

I just got back from a 900 mile trip and got 19.3 miles per gallon on my 06/2 wheel drive with a bed cover. Is this normal, are do I need to bring this up with the dealer/

txoutlaw - Technically the truck is
rated to get around 19-21 mpg. One thing you need to look at is
how you are gauging the gas milage. The most accurate way I have
found to measure MPG is to use the trip meter. Reset it everytime
you fill the tank - run the tank down to almost empty - within 1/16 of
a tank. Then devide the miles by 19 gallons (That is about the
norm for the gas tank capacity). I normally get around
21MPG. Just remember you can measure true gas milage without
running the tank down to the wire because the gas gauge lies.
Plz Resond with your findings.

^ that is NOT the correct way to figure your mileage. reset your trip odm. at fill up then when you fill up again devide the miles you drove by the gal. you put back in and thats your mileage. gas gagues are usualy off by quite abit. also never take your MPG read out on your cluster as the truth. i have a 05 CC 4x4 auto and normal driving which includes 80+ sometimes 100+ mph i get around 16.x-17.x on longer trips i get 19-just shy of 21. best and worse is 15.2 and 20.69 both calculated manualy. also the 19-21 rating from the epa is total crap. they do no real world driving to base that estimate off of. the do a sniffer test with a computer and a gas sniffer and have a program that "guesses" the mpg's. you can usualy subtract 12-15% from the eps'a number.

Mylt1 - The way I am testing my milage shows that I
am getting about the same milage as you are but because I am driving
the 4X2, my milage will be slightly better than the 4X4. By the
way - I drive 130+ miles a day round trip to work and get about 400+
miles on a tank. I fill the tank when it is just shy of empty and
put 19 - 19.5 gallons each time, and have done so consistantly for a
month. My milage averages 21 - 21.3 MPG

i took note of the advise and went to a local performance shop and purchased a set of 20"s for the truck....not too bling but just enuff to set it apart from the local fronty's. --- well see how much comfort im going to sacrifice for looks. i havent yet checked how far my vehicle can absolutely go on a full tank to the point of E but maybe after logging more hours in it to gain more confidence ill do it...just havent gained the trust---just got rid of my little eclipse for it and that sucker went on forever on a tank of gas. -- in do time fellas. anyhow; i gotta take a dump

Thanks for the info, and while at the dealership I asked him about the cold air intake system. He advised that any air intake put on the truck would void the warranty.

then he lied to you. its just like exhaust. it cant void the warranty. find another dealer if you can, to do any work. the only thing changing the exhaust would do is void ony warranty covering the factory exhaust. your money would be better spent at a better dealership.

Mylt1 is partly right. Adding a cold-air intake will not void the warranty on the transmission or brake systems.
However, because the intake system is designed to filter out particles
from entering the engine - any damage to the engine that could be
caused by debris may not be covered by Nissan because a non-factory
filter was used. The person at the dealership should have
been more discriptive. The dealership I bought my Front from
actually sells an aftermarket cold-air intake which they will install
for a fee - but will not cover it under the warranty.

I am pretty interested in the talk of using a K&N intake to save on MPG. Not being much (OK NOT AT ALL) a machanic i have a few questions for anyone who is interested:
1) Does the truck's computer have to be reprogrammed at all to account fo the new intake?
2) Does it effect the warranty at all?
Thanks all. It is great that this forum exists. I traded in my Jeep Liberty for my Frontier and had been getting great stuff from the L.O.S.T. site ( www.lostkj.com) for my jeep and it is nice to know that there is a community of Frontier owners as well!
