I just took my 06 CC in to have my Sirius installed as well as to have them look at the steering issue.  I told them how loose it was and how hard it is to turn when you are in a parking lot, etc.  It seems to be either real loose, or tight.  They told me that it was because I had wide track tires on it.  BS!  They are the factory tires that NISSAN put on and I have had wider tires that were much better than these.

Granted I am getting used to my steering but I still find it really hard to turn the wheel with one hand in the parking lot.  That isn't normal is it?

This is the email I send to Nissan about 3 time a week. If you are having this problem and are concerned about your families safety, please cut and edit and email to Nissan.

Will this have to happen to another family before NISSAN recalls it's defective steering coloumn in the 2006 Frontier..

In a first for the company, Toyota is also being criminally investigated by prosecutors in Kumamoto, southern Japan, over whether its quality-control managers had wrongfully delayed a recall filing that could have prevented a road accident in 2004 that injured a couple and their three young children.

NISSAN HAS HAD SEVERAL STEERING COLUMN REPAIRS AT MY DEALER ALONE. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO DO THE RIGHT THING NISSAN?

If the defective steering column in my 2006 Frontier breaks again while I'm driving, and my family is injured or killed -- Will Nissan, do a recall on the problem? Just curious!!!!

Nissan wants to ensure that Nissan vehicles are safe for our customers. When a safety defect is determined, Nissan will launch a Recall Campaign by sending vehicle owners a notification letter containing detailed instructions on how to have the matter remedied.

"IF THIS IS TRUE- WHY HAS NISSAN NOT HAD A RECALL FOR THE DEFECTIVE STEERING COLUMN IN THE 2006 FRONTIER" "WHY DO YOU KEEP STALLING AND JEOPORDIZING YOUR CUSTOMERS SAFETY"

SHAME ON YOU NISSAN!!!

By the way, I'am addressing a serious safety problem and no one from NISSAN has contacted me...

www.nissanusa.com  (click contact us) (select "I would like to tell you of a recent service expierence) This will get you to the email page...

BTW---

My local News Reporter called me back. He called Nissan USA and Carriage and they both refused to comment. At least they know the press is watching them now.

My 2006 Crew Cab Nismo 4x4 has 1200 mi. and often acts like it's very windy outside while driving on the highway when there is no wind.

 Interesting.

A new round of B.S. for my new 2006 Frontier.... I began hearing a noise in the front end. Given the steering column problems I have, I took the truck to the dealer. They said that the truck needed to be aligned- BUT! READY FOR THIS? It CANNOT be aligned without a special kit, and yep you guessed it- the kit was not in stock... They have to order a kit and it will take and entire day to fix when the kit comes in. So, for those of you who haven't read the previous post, here is a recap.

3100 miles= Catastrophic Steering Failure while traveling.

6200 mile= Vehicle is out of alignment and is not repairable without a special kit--FOR AN ALIGNMENT.

This might possibly be the biggest piece of sh*t car I have ever owned, not counting a Ford Explorer (It holds the record)....

What next Nissan- is the Fu***ng engine going to fall out onto the street at my third oil change?

Hey Mike,

You have heard of the Lemon Law right?  Have you had your truck in for the same repair 3 or more times?  If so, I would look into it.  I like you had a terrible experience with a 2002 Ford Explorer where there was a noise in the back end when you would go 52-60 mph which would come and go as you stepped on the gas pedal.  They tried to fix it 3 times with a brand new backend and then I took Ford to court.  I settled for the Magnuson-Moss act instead of the Lemon law since that doesn't go on the vehicles title but could've went with the Lemon Law had I enough patience and time.  Granted my settlement wasn't a new vehicle but I did get almost $10K as the settlement.  I ended up trading it in within the next year.

Just a thought.

Greg

Hi All,

2006 Frontier LE CC

This is going to fuel your fire for sure.  Last week while driving my girlfriend home, I noticed play in the steering wheel.  It was somewhere between a 1/4 and 1/2 inch of play.  I could rock it back and forth (teeter-totter style) while sitting at a light.  It would disappear then reappear in more or less the same fashion.

I thought I noticed increased resistance in steering over time but couldn't tell if it was real or if I just needed to hit the gym (wink).

I was taking it in the following day for a routine oil change and asked that they look at the problem.

Came back an hour later and the oil change was done but was informed that I needed to bring it back days later for the steering wheel issue in that they needed to order a part.  When I asked what the part was they only replied "a screw".  Further pressed, the service writer said that he wasn't sure what the tech ordered and that it wasn't something specific that nissan was aware of (read - recall).

So I bring it on Monday and they graciously gave me a loaner while they had it for the day.

Turns out, they replace the whole damn steering column due to a bad bearing set!  When the porter was unavailable to bring my truck around a manager type (maybe service manager) drove it around and when I asked if how it was steering he replied,

"Oh, was it in for the loose steering wheel thing?"

"Yup."

He says, "Yeah, we've had maybe 4 or 5 of these come thru in the past month or two.  It's on the Frontiers and Xterra's, 2005 and 06's.  Nissan is gathering data now and more than likely we'll see a saftey recall before long."

"Yeah, no S*%t."

They took care of the problem and it's like driving a different truck (well, a new one at least).  All in all, I was really happy with service and turn around though I question whether every dealer is going to be so happy to help.

I sincerely hope that Nissan fess's up to the problem before anyone gets hurt.  I'm a little anal when it comes to thoughts of the steering wheel coming off in hands but there are more than likely people out there who won't even notice the issue before it siezes up on them in the fast lane.

Good luck to you all and if, as someone suggested, the problem returns with the replacement, I'll let you all know.

BTW.. I still freaking love this truck.

Tom

I have heard of the Lemon Law. I was actually about to use it with an 2004 Explorer, but I got it traded for this Nissan before it went that far. Boy! Hine-Sight is 20/20 huh... I really can't tell that this Nissan is any better than the Explorer.. At this point I have not had the same problem 3 times. Just once for the steering column breakage and now the alignment issue. Thanks for the post though
