Some independent A/C company came out with a trunk mounted evaporator and blower in 1952 or 1953... Ones memories get weaker as time goes…. Then in 1962 I worked at Delanair Engineering designing and building A/C housings and blower ductworks for all U.K. cars and the VW bug. I have photos and drawings of my work. The folks in the U.K. had no concept of designing automotive A/C units.
They shipped all Rolls-Royce’s bound for the Arabs and the world to Ft. Worth to have us install our A/C units. The most difficult design and installation was the Jaguar XKE units. I had to design it with three small condensers. Two were positioned on each side of the dual up-sweep mufflers under the rear end. It had a trunk mounted evaporator and blower and the blower duct became an arm rest.
Funny thing is… I’ve never charged a unit using the gauges.

Don't want to beat this to death, but my '12 is also shuttering. Also feel a vibration in once in a while at low speed/low rpm. Hope it is nothing more than something to get used to. I have a 1000 mile trip next week pulling a boat, will see if shuttering changes.
June 6, 2012. Did not notice any shutter on the trip, but when I got back and started driving around the city, did notice the shutter return. Have not heard anyone discuss any problems created from the shutter, just that it was noticeable.

Hello just bought my 12 frontier in July and it does the same shudder it is annoying. Has anyone gotten a straight answer or figured this out. Just want as much ammo as possible before i go to the dealer for it. I love the truck other wise. I owned two Titans before this Frontier so I'm a die hard Nissan fan.

I tried something and it seemed to work, but makes no sense how... I was at the stop light with the tranny in D and foot on brake, AC on, engine idling... I pressed the gas pedal lightly to bring the RPM up to about 750.. and when I took my foot off the gas, it stayed at 750 RPM and ran smoothly....

to noel,
you have no ammo when it comes to the dealer. i was there with this idle thing and nothing. They ran diagnostics and found all banks where running at 100% efficiency. He said the idle is set low to save fuel.
You can purchase a Bullydog tuner for $250 and bump the idle up 25rpm yourself and it will smooth the idle out. But is it worth the cost? Or if you have a mechanic that would do it for you.

This is a common problem across all of the vehicles
powered by the 4.0.
I don't know why Nissan does it but all these trucks idle
low in the 630-650 rpm range. I bought my 2012 CC SV 6
speed with 17 miles on it ,and I noticed it on the test
drive.
There was no change in it ,and I now have 1100 miles.
I took it to the dealer this morning ,and although they
couldn't duplicate the problem they bumped the idle up 50
rpm and it is smooth now.
Aftermarket tuners can also bump it ,but they may or may
not void the warranty.

I am having the same issue, 5,800 miles and when warmed up
and stopped at a red light ,it starts to vibrate somthing
in the cabin,going to the dealership(Kelly Nissan of
Lynnfield, Mass.) tuesday 10/16/12 and have second oil
change and tires rotated ,will update then

Hello,
I have a 2012 frontier SV v6, 4.0L 2x4. I noticed the same idle vibration, enough so that at a stop light a half full bottle of water had vibrations going through it. I can feel it in the steering wheel and when my foot is on the brake in drive or reverse. In park or neutral no problem, smooth as silk. I took the truck to the dealer and they bumped up the idle what appears to be 25 rpm. So idle on the TAC at temp in drive is a bit under the mid point between the 500 rpm and 750 rpm marks.
The vibration level improved, but never went away...almost as if the frequency was changed but the strength was not. At times it reverts back to the lower idle especially when cold outside (I am in Los Angeles...cold is relative hahaha.). After a minute at a light it will rebound slightly and raise the idle a tiny bit. Has anyone solved this issue? Is it just a matter of cranking up the idle with a bullydog to 700 rpm? I would appreciate any help.

Mine seems to have smoothed out by clearing the self learn
control and performing the Idle Air Volume Learn procedure,
Take it to your dealer and have it done. This is something
that needs to be done periodically, especially for people
that are sensitive to the idle speed or lack of.
