Could the heater core be the culprit?

I would lean towards the water pump being faulty since the top rad hose is hot and the bottom rad hose is cold.  If your radiator was replaced, the bottom hose should also be hot, or at least very warm to the touch even if you have a head gasket/cracked block.

If the water pump is working correctly, and the thermostat is too, there will be no flow thru the rad until the engine gets hot enough to open the thermostat allowing flow thru the rad to prevent overheating.  If you have enough liquid in the system either A) your pump is not creating flow, B)Your thermostat isn't opening to allow flow to the rad.  Removing/replacing it should solve that riddle.

Howdy...

This is an old thread and some might not notice.

Please let me know what your heating problem is. I have a long list of things it could be in my other computer.

I'll be back tomorrow night.. Don S..

COOLING
I couldn't find the old cooling list so I typed a new one... probably forgot a few in my old age...
Diagnosing overheating is very complex.
Knowing the driving conditions that are causing the problems can help pinpoint the proper solutions.
First the coolant
Has the cooling system been completely purged of air including the heating system?
Is the coolant the proper type and mix fresh and consistent with manufactures    recommendations?
Is the over flow bottle at the correct level when hot and cold?
Mechanical
Is the pressure cap maintaining pressure?
Are all the passageways in the radiator core flowing properly free of crud?
Is the coolant pump pumping at full capacity?
Are the impellers or housing in the pump eroding or cavitating?
Is the drive system for the pump slipping?
Is the thermostat working correctly?
Is the cooling fan stock, the drive system and thermal sensing system working properly?
Is the heater system connected to the coolant system as it should be?
Is the A/C or automatic transmission add more than normal heat to the system?
Is the lower radiator hose being sucked closed without a large coil spring in it?
Air Flow
Is there ‘bug juice’ mud or the wrong type of paint on the cooling core?
Is the grill, bumper and air dam stock and in good shape?

Helpful do it yourself cooling tricks
Add hood bug/rock shield that forces more air into grill
Add a larger air dam below bumper that forces more air into grill and helps suck hot air from under the hood.
Add an automatic transmission pre-cooler behind the cab or completely reroute the system behind the cab to remove the added heat from in front of the radiator core
.
NOTE…
If all else fails turn off the A/C, turn on the heater, roll down the windows and slow down!

Good Luck.. Don S

Edit... Here's a few more
Bad tuning of the engine like wrong ignition timing or wrong fuel/air mixture ratio.
Bug screens, add on lights or recovery winches in front of the radiator core
Brakes dragging
Running in the wrong gear
DIY
Reverse flush the radiator core with a garden hose in the lower/output hose.
Using mild pressure wash the bugs and stuff from the radiator core squirting from the back side

Remember when replacing parts the new part might not be as good as the one it replaced. It has happened to me several times.
Go over the list I posted and carefully check each item.

When does it start to get hot? This is important. If it seems to heat up more driving slow and at stop lights.    Fans/out-put, fan clutches /heat sensors fan shrouds and many of the things on the list I posted. Remember all fans are not created equally... you need a powerful one!

If it seems to overheat more at highway speeds... Check the list but a large air dam under the bumper can do a be a lot (huge) (very big amount) of help to the cooling system.

Have a cool one.. Don S..

Chito,

First we need complete information about your Truck, includeing mileage, like Lakota has done in his signature.

Check under the Water Pump for leakage @ the Weep Hole.  You'll need a shop mirror, but if you can get a Finger under the Water pump @ the Weep Hole,, you might can check that way,, especially if you see liquid on your finger.  If liquid detected @ the bottom of the Water Pump, then that is a good indication that the Water Pump is Failing.

Go over Lakota's List, it's a good one.

Take the Radiator Cap off,, and check the level.  While the radiator Cap is off, have someone crank the engine, and look for bubble's.  Rev the Engine, just a little bit,, and again look for bubble's.  If you see Bubble's,, it might indicate a leaking head Gasket.

If you have a leaking Head Gasket, there is a good chance that it is pushing the coolant out of the radiator.  So how is the Coolant level in the Radiator?
