Whats the difference between a 4x4 and an all wheel drive? I used to have an all wheel drive toyat tercel and little rust bucket used to plow through snow with no ground clearnce while the big butt trucks 4x4 were stuck!! |

You may be right about them being little girls from Florida but the fact still rremains that they were stuck because the transfer of power goes to the wheels that are spinning which is no help at all if you are stuck...what it should do is direct the powere to the wheels not spinning..there by allowing traction to get you out... |

I believe your Toyota (with ATC) could probably pass 90 % of all 4x4s with open differentials in snow. However 4x4s equipped with ACT or with LSDs front and rear are able to travel in much deeper snow than your Tercel provided the driver skill is equal!
I only have 34 years driving in ice, snow, sand, rocks and mud at altitudes higher than Pikes Peak in Colorado. This includes driving two wreckers and my six 4x4s and I’ve never been stuck. I have videos of some of these travels for proof. During the first 19 years of driving my ’76 401 Wagoneer in Colorado it had open diffs front and rear before putting an LSD in the rear. I have four hours of this Wagoneer running on 34 Colorado off road mountain Passes.
I don’t claim to be a snow guru but I didn’t just fall off the turnip truck…
If you have more questions shoot… I have another box of crayons.
BTW.. We have videos of this also..
Have a good one.. Don S..
