New or used, if it is included, you should get a letter.

If you go to www.nissanassist.com and click on "Radiator Assembly" it has a lot of info regarding this issue. It might answer a lot of questions...

my question is:
how do i prevent the transmission - coolant mixing together. where does the leak happen? is it some hose? should i inspect it?
i have 81000 on my 2005 nissan and i never heard of this issue til i started looking for towing capacity of the truck. when i googled it, all i could see is complaints about the leak. i want to make sure i prevent it so if anyone has an answer to my question please let me know.

Just take the line off the inlet to the cooler in the rad and connect it to the line on the outlet from the rad cooler. It's anyone's guess how this affects towing capacity, though I'm sure it could be calculated.
The heat exchanger inside the radiator apparently develops cracks....
Simply removing the transmission/radiator core from the transmission cooling system would be catastrophic (read as will kill) for the automatic transmission! A large external cooling core needs to be installed in the cooling line. If Towing a blower needs to be fastened to the core. The core can be mounted behind the cab under the bed away from the muffler. lakota

I have a 2005 Frontier.
I haven't had this particular issue. I am wondering if I should just put in an aftermarket transmission cooler and block off the one built into the radiator. Has anyone done this, or has Nissan actually fixed the new radiators if so I would like to fix it before I have to rebuild the Tranny?
I have had all the other issues Nissan refuses to actually address. I don't expect a extended warranty on something like this I expect them to issue a recall and fix it properly with a redesigned radiator. This is the reason this will be the last Nissan I ever own, and since I am the guy in my circle of friends everyone asks car advice I always strongly recommend they do not buy a Nissan. Not because of the products, but due to Nissan horrible track record of customer service and standing behind their products. To put it another way I bought a 1989 firebird in 1997 at the time it had 80k miles I drove it through college and the first few years of working. I still have the car it has 213k miles on it. I bought the 2005 Nissan in 2006. I keep good records and added up the repair costs between the two. I have spent way more keeping the Nissan Running in 5 years than I have the firebird in 14 years. Now my cat has gone out (96k mi), luckily I don't have emission testing where I live, so for now I am just ignoring it. My truck is now sitting at 101k miles and I am really thinking about going to Ford or Toyota and trading it in. Sorry for the rant but hopefully it will save someone some money.

The warranty on the nissan assist web site specifically mentions
automatic transmissions. I have an '07 6-speed manual that has
become very difficult to shift when the engine is cold. Could this be
related to the radiator problem described above?

In terms of aftermarket AT external coolers, in addition to the stock cooler, I am told Hayden models 678 , 689, and 687 will fit nicely next to the existing factory cooler. I will be doing my installation in a few years, when I get near the warranty expiration time.. I have almost 40K on my 08.
Oreilly auto parts have these availble none are over $100.

Are you saying the Hayden cooler would not be sufficient
by itself? Isn't the idea to bypass the trans cooler in
the radiator?
