Grasping at straws here...
I always let my vehicles warm up a little... even in the summer time. Many high tech people say baloney to that. Every thing in the truck expands and contracts with temperature changes. Sudden changes in the size of things can not be good. Cold oil int the tranny is not good. Cold oil in the tranny might reduce the RPM as the starter tries to spin the engine for a start. Has the tranny oil been changed?
It might be something in the wiring is losing contact when it is very cold. Stronger currant can push or break through a weak contact . It seems like something bad happened to your truck or perhaps a wire radomly is shorting out. Did you buy the truck new? If not look for service records and try to talk to the ex-owner.
Good Luck.. Don S..

ya ive had the tranny fluid changed. ya i think you are heading in the right direction it seems like a wire or a contact will contract in the cold temperature and loose contact when it gets really cold. i just cant isolate it!

Another shot in the dark!
One other thing is the volitility of the gasoline you are using.
The colder the weather the vaporization point of the gasoline gets more important. All over the USA the temperature that gasoline vaporizes is lowered in the winter. Summer grade Gasoline does not start engines vey well in the winter. The vaporization point of summer grade can be over 400 degress F. Winter grade can be be like 100 degress F. You might be using summer grade fuel!!!!
In the old days winter grade gasoline used in the summer time caused many old cars to vapor lock...
Check it out.. Don S..

I am just staring to have this same problem with my truck. Took it to the dealer today and the code that they found was that the key was not being detected. I used my wife's key tonight, and it is doing the same. The dealer talked about replacing the BCM (Body control module).
Will update as I go...........................RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RR!
P.S. One thing that I did notice............. when the truck won't start, take the key out, put it in and turn it to the on position. Wait a few seconds, and if the security light comes on then the truck will not start. Instead of repeatedly trying to start the truck, I would just keep inserting the key and turning to the on position until the security light would no longer come on. Once the light no loner comes on, the truck will start.
Again...........RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

TATTS,
I believe you have a very good observation there. In the
owners manual, there used to be a procedure for starting
with an unregistered key???? Or I may be thinking of
something else!!

i think it has something to do with a bad contact or solder inside the circuitry of the ipdm, that is only affected by really cold temperature. i finally caved in and ordered a new ipdm and installed it. trcuk has not had a problem since but its only been a week. because this used to happen so infrequent and randomly it is hard to confirm that i fixed the problem!
an expert on just answer.com thinks that instead of the ipdm sending 12 volts to the fuel pump like it should it send only 6 to 8 volts! which kinda makes me think he may be right because usually it will start with a boost! i dunno its a frustrating problem it pisses me off the nissan wont own upto to it because lots of people are having starting/stalling problems and its not a coincedence. and the thing that really bothers me is that there? fun loving mechanics or supposed techies cant figure out what the problem is even with all there high tech scan tools and poop!
