finally got under the truck yesterday.....the rear U joint on the front drive shaft is slightly worn, maybe just enough to rumble at higher speeds.  tried to remove the shaft but the 14mm bolts are an absolute bitch to get off they're so tight.  I am having to heat them with a plumbers torch for around 3 min each to get them loose.  Got 4 loose and ran out of time so I had to tighten them back up.  Will post when I get the shaft off to see if the noise is gone.

I was under my truck the other day also and found the rear u-joint of the front drive shaft is worn and can be moved up and down by hand. I purchused 2 u-joints but the weather is to bad and I have not had time to install them yet. I am 99% sure this is where the noise and vibration are coming from. Still need to figure where the rattle in the engine is at 2200-2300 rpm's (only). Other than that the truck runs perfect @ 100K.

I believe you guys have found the source of your rumbles. Remember to always check the u-joints on the front drive shaft. End of lesson for today.< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">

removed front drive shaft today....took truck up to 80mph - no rumbling.  rear U joint had one end that was completely devoid of grease and no needle bearings left.  rplaced both U joints and reinstalled, back up to 80 MPH and no rumbling.  gentlemen, check your U-joints.

Today I got a chance to work on my truck. I removed front drive shaft and replaced both u-joints, the one closest to the transfer case was bad. Reinstalled and test drove without any rumbling noise or vibration. Feels great when the truck runs smooth. I did not know how this truck would run so smooth since this was bad when I bought it. Only have one other problem at this time but I will start another topic. Other than that the truck runs great @ 100K. Thanks again frontierguy for you input and others who contributed.
