what kind of mileage is every one getting in the 05/06 2x4 crew cabs with 6 speed?  I am getting 20-23.5 depending on city/highway on 87 octane gas.  A buddy of mine is getting 23-24 on the highway but has installed a K & N air filter.

first, a couple of things you need to ask yourself, how do your driving habits compare to his...are you heavy on the gas and is he more conservative cause that might make a more significant difference than a K&N air filter..and speaking of the air filter, is it a stock replacement filter, or a cold air intake, which could possibly make more of a difference in efficiency, the other members can speak more to that..cause i put in a K&N stock replacement filter on my 01 fronty, and haven't seen a huge difference to be honest with you, maybe a tiny bit..but i don't think i can say that it's made a huge dentin my mpg. another thing could be...are tehre any other factors such as aftermarket exhaust parts on his truck or yours, as well as bed covers, either soft or hard, those could give him a slight edge in mpg assuming all things other than those are equal, but to be honest, i would think that driving styles might make more of a difference, but that would seem quite obvious and probably not much help to you. but look at other factors that i mentioned. and maybe the other knowledgeable people here could offer more information that could help you.
