Depending upon the speakers you use, it may not be necessary to use an amp.  But I can say, quality speakers with a quality amp will do wonders to your sound system.

Just my $.02 I would not use MDF for spacers in the doors.  MDF does not mix well with water, and it's brittle when using this pieces.  Try 1/4" birch for basic spacers, holds up better to moisture.  Often when installing components behind factory grills I make a bracket to position the tweeter in front of the midbass driver, similar to a coax style speaker.
