..

My '99 4x4 V-6 must have a dirty sensor. Only got 15.9 mpg the last fill-up in semi city traffic. The oversize tires could account for 1 mpg. I use Wallyworld 87 with 10% Ethanol $2.459 June 9 th. I also use the Lucas fuel treatment. Guess I'll get the MAFS cleaned and see if that helps.

It is possible that Wallyworld is using more of that crummy Ethanol than they say.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

Has anyone tried leaving the tailgate open to see if it helps the mileage?

Im also converted my fluids to snythetic. I have also installed a K&N induction system and opened the exhaust with a Flowmax 11 chambered muffler. You should program these mods. which I have and am pulling a consistant 22.5mpg at 70mph.

www.fueleconomy.com The newer frontier avg. better MPG than toyota, ford, chev 4x4's ! My 09 CC 4WD got 21.5,22.6,21.2 MPG on trips ! Thats from 60 to 74 mph on last trip ! At 65mph i'm ony running 2000 rpm's with auto tran. ! Didn't get this good with my 4cy. toyota tacoma 4x4 ! Older nissan 4x4 got horrible mpg ! Avg. 20 city/hwy with 09 ! Just pick up new truck on June 3,09 !! Nissan has really improved with this 261 hp motor !

I agree about the VQ motor, it is awesome. I am getting 20 with mixed city and highway and have gotten as high as 22 (round trip from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe, including almost a 8500ft climb)
I am shocked. A buddy of mine has a 2007 Tacoma 4 banger, non prerunner truck and got 21 mpg.
When god invented a truck, Nissan was there!!

Um....let me explain something. The desired goal is MORE gas mileage. :)

You're probably experiencing the joys of RFG  gas, which I have to buy here in Louisville, too. Much worse mileage than others get. You're going to have to adapt to the idea.

The VQ engine is a wonderful thing, powerful, responsive, etc. but with that power comes a price. You don't get something for nothing. Power costs gas, period.

My truck gets 21-21.5 on the highway, the very best I've gotten was 22.5, when the truck was brand new, and before I put a toolbox on it. I suspect the toolbox alters the airflow enough to cost me a good MPG. I usually use the cruise control when highway driving, and try to keep the tach under 2000rpm, and that's the best I can do. Your CA gas is probably blended like our gas in Louisville, and that's not a good thing for mileage at all.

It was a shock for me to find out that a friend out in Missouri, with a crew cab Z-71 Chevy Silverado, got the same mileage as my truck on the highway.

Good for you. My very very best is 18.  It's really annoying & to think the best I can do is things like "keep my tire pressure correct" is even more annoying.

I was pretty stupid to purchase this used vehicle without looking into the MPG. Everything is else is great & the quality I would expect from a Nissan.
