Hi,
I have an 06 NISMO and I have to say that the tailgate hinge setup is a peice of crap. I have broken both pins on the tailgate and both cups that mount on the truck a few times over. I use my truck as a truck. (I am assuming that is also why a blew my rear dif at 45 000 km. Who new that you can't take an off-road package truck through any mud puddles? Why would the vent on an off-road dif be only one inch tall?) I load and unload dirtbikes and move firewood but nothing out of the ordinary. I used to own a 93 Mazda B2600 and I swear to God it would crush my frontier. Atleast all of the tailgate parts are covered under warantee. When they come in I will be putting some weld on them so that I am not replacing them all the time.
Is it just me?

I agree that the tail gate mounting hardware is pretty flimsy. I've had the hinges replaced once already just from letting the tail gate drop down under it's own weight. It was not intentional but after it happened the bottom of the tail gate stuck out significantly from the rest of the body.

Agree on the tailgate hinges !!! My 2006 hinges are bent and last Fall took it into dealer just before 3 yr warranty expired. They did not try to help at all. Damned tailgate is too heavy on the 2006 for the flimsey hinges. I guess I will have to buy some and replace them myself. This is VERY DISAPPOINTING for me as a long time Nissan car & truck owner. My old '83 King Cab never had any body problems and was a fine 200,000 mile truck. HELLOoooo........Nissan.....are you listening?

Its a shame they changed the design of the hinges. Recently my friend and I tried to get about a 700lb pine log into the bed of my 04. We couldn't lift it obviously, so we leaned it on the open tailgate while I tried to drive in reverse, hoping that the log would be able to slide in. Well, the tailgate got stuck on the bark of the log, and when I started in reverse it almost closed the tailgate and shoved the back of the truck down. All the log did was crack the plastic piece around the handle, no damage to the hinges. After that we said screw it.
Nissan should realize that some people actually do use their trucks as trucks. If my 04 tailgate can take the weight of a 700lb log leaning against it, its nuts that the 06's can't take their own weight!

I have been able to convince my dealership to replace my hinges a second time. I have the sinking feeling though that this will be my first and last Frontier. Not sure if the Tacomea would have been any better seeing as though on-one seems to make a truck for those of use who use them for what we "think" they were made for.

Want add my 2c my 06 hinges are bent. I really haven't loaded anything heavy.
The alignment is off on the tail gate. Not a lot, but the right side sticks out past the rest of the bodywork. and looking at the hinges you can see the bend.
My wife has trouble lifting the gate. It certainly isn't a one hander and it gets dropped everytime we open it.

Just had my hinges painted and replaced under warrantee. I will be welding them solid so that this doesn't happen again. If they break after all the press-fit material has been welded solid, than I will probably have bigger problems.

I'm glad I found this thread. I have an '08 Frontier but haven't run anything too heavy over the tailgate yet other than loading a snowmobile from the ground. That didn't seem to bother it. But I am/was contemplating loading my Road King in the back and heading out west later this year. I haven't measured the bed as compared to the wheelbase to know exactly where the back tire would sit but I do know that the tailgate would have to stay down because of the overall length of the bike. That's not to mention running the bike up a ramp that would be set on the tailgate to get it in the back. Now it seems I have one more concern to think about if I don't want to mess up my hinges.
