I've read the information on that site and done a bit of research myself on this topic. I've been told by other sources (also from the internet for what's that worth) that adding acetone to your fuel, even in the small quantities recommended on the website, can cause serious problems with seals in the fuel system! Seems odd to me that if these claims of 20% or better improvement in gas mileage were real that the media would be all over it! By my calculations, a 20% increase in my current mileage of 16.8 MPG would improve to at least 20.2 MPG by adding 3 oz of acetone at every fill-up (a significant improvement)! I'd have to see more data, from more than one individual, with hard facts of actual improvements in mileage and no adverse effects on the fuel system before I turned my $27K daily commuter into a Lab Rat!

Sorry about the link not working..i can't seem to get the hyperlink deal to post it in there...so that's why it's just text...you should be able to just cut and paste it and it work tho..or do a google for acetone as a fuel additive and the site that i got a ton of information from is pweski or something like that...they are some time of alternative energy research org or something. anyway....well, yeah i can understand what indy is saying...about the media being all over it if it was huge...but i can def understand oil companies not saying anything about it cause they want ya to buy more gas. anyway....there should be some people having information on that site stating that they placed parts in diff mixtures of gas and acetone and doing some measurements (i.e. micrometer) before and after having them soaking in those diff mixtures..i don't know if you saw that or not...apparently there wasn't a sig diff. b/w just gas and the small gas/acetone mix. now as far as fuel system seals....well the only real way to tell would be to purchase or find some old nissan fuel system equipment and soak it in the mixes for a few months and see what kind of effects, maybe duplicate that experiment from the other site and see what you find, granted that's only gonna give you empirical data, since it wouldn't be "real-world" testing, and i totally agree with you, I am working on my second degree in chemistry, first one is in biology, the mechanisms make a little sense as far as reasoning for increase in mpg by using acetone, however i def. need more information like you before i turn my daily commuter into a lab rat. like i said..i wish i had my 240SX still so i could test it....lol cause neither my brother nor my dad wanna try it either til they have more proof.
