ok...another tech question i suppose....i was browsing on 4x4parts.com and found this power control module that i guess plugs in piggy back to the onboard computer or what not and claims to recalibrate fuel map...and optimizes ignition and spark timing and recalibrated air/fuel ratio...for improved performance...anyone used it...and did they put it on bone stock...and see any improvements in mpg and performance as well as putting it on an already modified vehicle (say intake and exhaust) and see a difference...and if you haven't put it on yourself..have you heard anything about it. thanks

All they do is trick the computer.  It takes the signals from the inputs and changes them to make the computer call for advancement or retarding of the spak, dumping more or less fuel.. etc.  They work, and are far better than any resistor jobby on Ebay.  As far as fuel economy using them... idk.

yeah..i'll have to do more research, i found a couple of them online...one was at truckperformance.com and the other on 4x4parts.com....the one on 4x4parts.com was called...well hold up and i'll post the links for it..let y'all take a look if you like and i'm gonna do some more research as well, i guess my next question would be, how do you know they work? and would it be more beneficial to add something like that after adding intake/exhaust or would it make a difference since it takes the inputs anyway and mods it....additional question, adding one before or after a chip upgrade (jet ideally), thanks

well from a few of the reviews i read.. a few people raved about them but then a few others said it was a joke (about what you'd expect i guess), the few that said it did work, but it basically as you stated tricks your computer into thinking i guess you are at a higher throttle point than you actually are, thus dumpin more fuel into the engine, and therefore decreasing economy, the only good thing i saw on one of them is that you can turn it off (4x4parts.com) and has an override switch, whereas the Venom is supposed to only give you those advantages when you are driving hard it says...dont' know

they're basicly a power programer like Banks and Bullydog for Diesels.  They adjust the settings, tricking the computer into providing more power.  As far as how well those work... you got me.

But Banks and Bullydog do increase the power on diesel.  And the fact you can shut it off from the one on 4x4parts.com means you can atleast keep some decent mileage. 

For the intake and exhaust... it wouldn't be a bad idea to have those done first.  This will open the engine up more, enabling it to use that extra power the programer is pulling out.

have you seen an improvement in mileage in doing your intake and exhaust as well as seeing a small increase in power?

2nd question...with the 3.3L what is the max HP and torque (final numbers) that you know someone has gotten out of them w/o going the way of the premium gas mandated routes (i.e. turbo, superchargers)...knowing that they come stock with the 170 HP and 200 ft./lbs. of torque..i'm just curious and what someone did to achieve those increases

3rd question...perhaps worth a new topic..but i've been doing some reading on acetone as a fuel additive and been reading that it can make a vast improvement on mileage..what have any of you heard or seen.

Man.... 

1.) I noticed a slight increase in my gas mileage when I did the intake mod + K&N filter, with a muffler.  But you won't gain much unless you throw on a Tonneau cover.  That's when I noticed the biggest gain. 

2.) I have no idea off the top of my head any numbers of people getting with their 3.3L  But I'm pretty sure for the MAX numbers possible, it was achieved with JWT parts, intake, exhaust, gearing, and the 91 octane with supercharger.  If you want to keep your gas bill low, check into those 4 items I listed first

3.) I've heard nothing about usuing Acetone as a fuel additive.  Though I used to get such good gas mileage with my old frontier. (one of the reasons why I wish I hadn't traded it in)

LOL yeah...man i wouldn't even consider the supercharger right now or the 91 octane lol....before i just bought my 01 CC...i drove an 02 desert runner s/c king cab..and liked it a lot...was in excellent condition and low low miles..with a GREAT deal..but i thought about gas and premium prices..and that was the deterant, otherwise i woulda pounced on that deal...

anyway...as far as the gas mileage..did you have a 4 banger..cause i know they get great mpg...but i also am going to get a cover for the bed, because i know it does make a difference there in streamlining the truck and thereby increasing mileage ( what kind of difference did you see when you added yours?)...just deciding on which one i want..prolly one of those rollup deals...don't particularly feel like shelling out 1000 bucks on a cover lol ya know? i plan on doing the intake and exhaust as soon as i can afford it...first off i need to get an alignment and balance job on my tires.

as far as acetone as a fuel additive...check this link out and come to your own conclusions..the reasons are pretty compelling and i'm a chemistry student and have my degree in biology already so i am considering trying it out to see if it makes a huge difference...granted i'm not as schooled in chemistry as probably soem of these peeps that came up with thsi stuff...just using the little knowledge i have in the area to see if it is worth the effort to give it a shot i guess...let me snag the major link i have...and post it here...but there are numerous links out there with information about it.

I USED to have a 4 banger (traded my baby in)  And I wish I hadn't, cause she got such good gas mileage.  I could drive back and forth to work for month and half before I had to fill it up (work is only 3 miles away) and that's even taking it on a 30 min trip once a month to Sturgis.  Realize the tank on the 4 bangers is only 12.5 gallons.  That's REALLY GOOD mileage for a truck.  And I used 91 in it because I found that gave me the most power, and lasted longer than 85 or 89.

As for the bed cover, the first thing I noticed was a higher top end speed was achievable.  I went from 104-115 top end just by having that bed cover on.  LOL  Plus I noticed I had a lot better gas mileage, about 5-8 MPG more on the highway.  It's amazing what that thing did for me. 

For the bed cover, I had a roll top, requires a lot of maintenance.

Click on the frontier, and go to page 2 or 3 i believe.  that shows most of the stuff about the cover, maintenance and install.  It only takes a hour (though the place that installed it said it took 2 hours... I don't see how) 

Mine caved in from a HEAVY snowfall.  Not your normal 6 ft of dry powder, this was 4 ft of WET snow.  That was the reason why I had to take it apart.  It does flap when driving down the highway... but honestly I could never hear it over my subs
A friend also cause a small dent leaning on it to close my back window.  Look at my entire site of the truck so you get the idea.

yeah, i had an idea of what those look like...we have a truck place down here and they had a few different ones....i found a couple i kinda like that are semi-soft covers. so did you notice an increase in mileage around town as well with it on? i guess cause a lot of my intown driving is done on higher speed in-town roads, doing 45-55 miles per hour most of the time, i would definitely expect to get a higher mpg on the highway with one, right now i think with my truck i am figuring i'm getting around 17-18 mpg in-town and i really need to have the tires balanced/rotated as well as an alignment done on it. however yeah i know the 4-bangers get awesome mileage for a truck cause my dad has a 4banger fronty and it gets great mileage. i plan to go with most likely the gibson exhaust and a K&N air charger or what not, we'll see...have to decide how much i wanna spend and see what i can get the most bang for the buck for. as far as acetone, check it out and let me know what you think it has a pretty comphrehensive amount of information tho i'd like to see some more personally...but i'm considering trying a little bit of acetone and see if it makes a difference like they say....i guess the most of what i'm worried about is the fuel pieces....but from everything i've read they said their is no effect when you run it in the mixtures they tell you to which is really small, 1-2.5 oz. per 10 gallons of gas. anyway...i'll bounce for now..but again let me know what ya think..i wish i still had my 240SX to try that acetone with lol..just sold it.
