Just Signed up to this forum looking for some help.

to start off I have a 2008 Nissan Frontier SE 4x4 with an automatic trans

I have worked on audio and visual on the truck but now I just want raw HP

right now I have an AFE Intake on the frontier and a Magnaflow Exhaust
Sounds nice but I still want to achieve more HP

now I was thinking of  this list.. as far as performance

1.) Cams (Expensive :-/)
2.) ECU Reflash for cam specific
3.)Pulley Kit
4.) Headers
5.) High Flow Cats
6.)Throttle body spacers
7.) Solid engine and trans mounts)
8.) Custom induction for the intake im making but thats my project

Now my question to the frontier community is that would any of the above provide what im looking for and are the throttle body spacers really worth it?.. and I cant find that many performance parts for the truck.   I did find cams but they were close to $1000
and what would be my top 3 list that I should save for right now?

Sry if this was a repost of someone elses Im new to this site and figured someone would help me out here

Well lets go down the list.  I'm assuming you have the VQ40DE and have been looking at JWT for most of the stuff

1.) Cams, Stage 1 would be a good place to start, but you're not going to get too much without some other upgrades.  That's when it'll make a big difference.  Honestly just save your money and spend it on other stuff first, then come back later once you've upgraded some other internals

2.) ECU reflash, this can be helpful even without the cams, but most places will want to know what current setup you have, or planning on putting in.

3.) Pulley Kit, I would start here as one of your 3.  This will give you some HP and torque right away without having to reflash

4.) Headers, another good place to start, this will free up some of your exhaust flow.  The better a motor breathes, the more HP and torque.

5.) Hi-flow cats, this is kind of a gray area.  I've seen tests done on dynos that show no difference between a new cat, and a hi-flow.  Sometimes though you can get a hi-flow for cheaper than a stock one.  I would do this the same time you get the ecu flashed, because some ECUs will throw a code if you change this out.

6.) TB spacers, I haven't seen any yet for the new 4.0L, but I don't have any newer Nissan's so I haven't been looking either.  I know there has been good results with the VG30E motors.

7.) Solid mounts, this is something to be very careful with, and don't recommend for street vehicle.  Your setup is only as strong as your weakest link.  If you upgrade your mounts (which are fairly cheap) it puts your weakest link to something else, mainly your U-joints.  But could also move it to your rear end, driveline and tranny output shaft.  I would get the rubber exchanged for urethane mounts, but wouldn't solid mount it unless you plan on doing a drag vehicle.  The gains are minimal from this, and not worth it.

8.) Custom intake, Have fun , I had plans for doing one on a 90 HB using the hood vents for a RAM intake.

My opinion, do 3,4,and 6 now for your first 3.  Then do 1,2, and 5 later on at the same time.  Stay away from 7, and have fun with 8.

Headers are cheaper and less labor intensive, they would go well with a full catback kit to that magnaflow can. Some people have done the 2* timing advance also.

In my .02, I'd wait for the ECU re-flash. You have an 08, you'd almost be a guinea pig for the company. I wouldn't do that to my truck.

No idea on the 2*, just have read that people are happy with the result on the 4.0L.

I'll ask the guy at work, he had it done on his pathfinder.

Well if you want to go supercharged, i would look at lowering your compression ratio some.  Getting the valve springs that JWT sells.

I would start checking around to see if someone has a shift kit for the tranny yet.  To help firm it up.

You'll also want to try and boost your fuel pressure.

Yeah, with all those upgrades to the motor, don't forget about the tranny and rear end. As you make one thing stronger, it will break the weakest thing connected to it. I would ask you to do one thing though, get it on a dyno before you start modifying it and while you are modifying it. Just so you can know for your self and post for the benefit of others what mods give how much power.   good luck
