OCNITRO;

... Sorry to hear of the problems you are having.

... In 1999 I bought my new '99 3.3 Frontier SE KC 4x4 and bought the wife a new '99 V-8 4x4 Grand Cherokee. The GC drove us nuts with stuff not working and recalls. The rear end was out of it 5 times. The frontier was perfect and still is.

... A close friend of mine is a mechanic at a large Toyota dealership! I told what you said and he just laughed. He said Toyotas and Nissans trucks are the best in the world but Toyota has made it's share of mistakes an occasionally they try very hard to hide them. Toyota is currently giving every one who bought a certain engine (that came in three different models) free oil changes because of a poor design that causes the oil to prematurely sludge up and replaced a lot of the engines that blew up. They tried to hide that screw up for a long time and were not standing behind their product.

... Do you know what a birfield joint is? Well it's a long story so don't ask. Toyota also put some crummy bearings in an early 5 speed truck tranny and there are still some folks pissed about that.

... There are other examples I could recite but all in all Toyota is one of the best trucks you can buy... and second only Nissan!

Have a good one and CUL.. Don S..

  I bought an 05 Tacoma Prerunner on Feb 28 2005 on March 6 2006 I traded the POS for a 2006 Nissan Frontier KC SE 4x4, now at 2500 miles with 0 problems, its quite, powerful, and built like a tank, Id have to say TOYOTA SUCKS!!!!! after all the problems I had. First problem was various squeaks and rattles, then alignament issues, Anti-lock brakes on the Tacomas will get someone hurt, A/C compressor locked up, interior plastic scratched very easy, wind noise waz ridiculous, suspension bottoming out on the smallest of road dips, leaf-springs sounded like they were going to fall off on every single bump. I guess every now and then you get a dud, In my opinion I think Toyota just hurried their truck into production and its costing them a ton of money now, if you actually think their better, go over and read at ToyotaNation or TundraSolutions, I have well over 100 post in each of their Forums under D1LIVE. Iam also a member of ClubFrontier Now. Goodluck

Have you noticed what sells a lot more?  i will see 30 Toyotas before i see one Frontier.  they also have better gas mileage.  i think i will trade my truck in asap.  if i am the only one having this many problems then this truck must be A LEMON.  let me know what you people think.

no i know what your going through, i have had so many problems with my frontier that im about fed up with nissan. 3 weeks ago i was on my way to glamis so i took my truck in for service, well im glad i did because my tow harness had stopped working. im glad i didnt get out there and get pulled over because my trailer had no lights. then they tell me it had stopped working because there was a recall on that harness for wire malfunction. i was like great how come no one called me. of course they had no answer.  all in all i think nissan just needs to get there sh*t together

I traded my 05 tacoma for the 06 nismo.  I am very happy with the nismo.  Here is what I like about it.

The nismo has: a better ride, a real metal bed that does not crack.  A tailgate that will not bend when hauling things, gas mileage is the same or better than my taco, the engine and interior is very quite, the 4x4 shift is quick and easy (no waiting).  It has way more leg room for the driver and front passenger.  It feels more rugged than the taco.

My 05 taco: at 540 miles began to sound like it lost a valve, it had a lot of drivetrain noise, a lot of wind noise, the bed is a joke, interior is cheap and wears quickly, toyota technicians all agreed there is a lot of valve rattle with the 4.0 engine but can't do anything about it.  The ride is very harsh!!! I guess because of the composite bed.  low speed torque is not good at all.  The worst truck I have ever owned.  I only kept it for 9 months.  I could not stand to make any more payments on such a truck.  For those wanting to lift the 4x4 the tacoma can't even run 305/70/16 because of the cab mounts located right behind the front tire.  most of the time the only options where to UPGRADE to a 265/75/16 which rubbed with aftermaket wheels.
