"Thermal Control Amplifier"

The purpose of this sensor is to shut the a/c off when the
temperature at the evaporator gets down to about 35-37
degrees, to prevent ice build up.

Well guys, if one of you that bought the part and it was the wrong part want to sell your TCA, I might buy it from you if the price is right and try and replace mine again. I have replaced my TCA before and it blew cold for a while but now its going back to cold hot cold hot again, the light on the AC button no longer shows, so I don't know if it's just a blower resistor or if it's the TCA again. Any help let me know!

Thanks
JS

Hey JS, I don't have a problem with giving you a good deal on the TCA. I have a '98 Pathfinder also and I need to see if it takes the two wire or three wire version. I'll get back to you pretty soon and let you know.

Here we are more than 2 years after this thread started. I installed the TCA on my 00 Xterra, and after 3 days in the intense AZ heat, I can report the problem is solved. To Boatbuilder 306 & the others who took the time to post here - thank you!
And to the lawyers at Nissan playing CYA - kindly take a flying leap.

Hello. A few weeks ago my A/C compressor started shutting off. I checked
the freon levels and all looked good. I then found this thread and was
extremely excited. I replaced the themo control amplifier two weeks ago and
am still having the same issue. Has anyone else had the TCA
replacement not work? Any thoughts on how to check to make sure it is a
TCA issue? I'm thinking about hooking up a thermometer in the box to see if
in fact it is hitting 35-37 degrees. I'm also thinking about jumping the red
and black wires...

This is likely my problem as car symptoms are: AC not kicking for a while, then when it does, blows perfectly freezing air. Getting ready to order part and replace. Thanks guys for help. Will post with update. (BTW joined simply to reply to this post)

I have a Nissan Xterra 02, had similar problems, my AC would start randomly, basically the compressor would be going off and on repeately, sometimes would stay on but never consistent. Went to the shop, they did flushing and reload of gas, leak detection, compressor testing, changed filters, a switch in the front of the radiator and nothing, the same.
They told me to fix it was going to be $2000 to fix it because of labor and they had to take the whole dashboard out, I found this blog and replaced the TCA $40 bucks and BINGO ! AC is cool and working perfectly.
now the actual replacement labor took me around 3 hours since i've never done it before but its def not $2000 in labor.
So much for the mechanics that cant google a simple problem and end up costing users lots of $$$
thank you for this blog and the guy that posted the pictures !

Hello,

I joined this forum simply to thank "baykahz" for the in-depth repair steps and photos regarding the Thermal Control Amplifier.  The guys at the Nissan dealers (3 different dealers just North of Dallas) all quoted 3 hours of labor and a cost of around $400.  I purchased the part for about $40, opening up the Ipad to this website with the pics, started at 5:27 pm, and was completely through and all tools back where they belong at 6:02 p.m.

baykahz, you are a gentleman and a scholar...sincere thanks!

glad i stumbled upon this thread.  obviously i want to thank the OP.  Unfortunately like a few others here, I seem to have a 2 wire TCA or thermistor (of course I didn't find out until I purchased the 3 wire version).

Has anyone with the 2 wire version found a replacement or a fix?  Can we safely bypass it if we don't let the a/c get too cold for too long?

I have a 2003 Xterra but its build date was 9/2002.  I'm noticing that the A/C diagram doesn't quite match the 2003 service manual, or even the 2002.  It's almost a hybrid of the 2.  I guess they used leftover parts from the 2002 or something.
