Finally!!!
Took it to the dealer and they ran tests and everything was normal..$79.99 and then they said it would be hundreds as they would have to pull it down to check cam timing. The thing was showing lean at idle and then when you opened the throttle it would go rich. Here is what I did to fix the problem....
Took the valve cover off and rotated the cams of the first cylinder so that the right exhaust valve was pointing towards the drivers side fender and the intake was pointing towards the passenger side. Both cam lobes pointing away from each other which is about where the book has them when you use the mating marks as indicated by the sh*tty! book diagrams and the best diagrams on this website.
Then I took the intake cam gear off and held the chain and rotated the intake gear so that it would be EXACTLY pointing the opposite (away) from each other at TDC.
Then I rotated the engine by hand two revolutions so that I was sure the valves wouldn't hit. Then took a compression test and had 120psi. Not good enough as it should be near 175 or so.
Then I put the engine on TDC and rotated the intake cam two teeth to the right and repeated everyting again...and had 150psi.
Then I put the engine at TDC and put the cams so that the keyways were both pointing as straight up as possible and I got 175 psi. Wow, what a difference.
So, it seams that at Top Dead Center of the engine on the Compression stroke, make the intake and exhaust cam gears as close as you can to where the keyways on the gears are pointing straight up. Forget the *&_*(()*ing mating marks etc... and you will be running down the road with lots of power like I am.
I spent months messing with every system on this damn truck and wouldn't run for crap. DO NOT SPEND A DIME ON ANYONE OR ANYTHING UNTIL YOU HAVE THE CAM TIMING RIGHT AND ARE PRODUCING 175 PSI PER CYLINDER. When you have that, put it together and it will run like mine is now. If you need to contact me for further explanation please e-mail me at gandl2123@comcast.net.
Thanks!
