From what I've read 86 regular is OK as long as the knock sensor is working and you don't mind losing power.

I own an 06 Crew Cab SE, manual trans.  I have run 87 octane since the day I bought it new and I now have 28k miles on her.  Never thought of running anything more than 87 since the truck performs so darn well.   Never had a knock or ping, or lack of performance.  I consider it a "Sport Truck" with the manual transmission and I can squall tires in 3rd gear!  I can easily keep up with my Z car, so dont plan on paying more for gas they I need to!
