I`ve been running 87 octane in my 06 4.0 and getting 15-16 mpg arond town and about 22-25 mpg on the highway does 93 give a boost when towing 4500 pounds behind it I use 89 but felt no more power it has 2.93 R/P WITH LT265-75-16 LTX M/S stock rims

Higher octane is for vehicles that need it. High performance/high compression engines like the 350Z or a Corvette need 93 octane. Octane is just a rating of how much the gas/air mixture in the engine can be compressed by the engine before it detonates on its own (before the spark plug fires). Use 87 octane in a 'Vette, and it will knock and pop and spit and just run crappy. Put 93 octane in a regular car or truck, and you are just wasting money.
And just so you know I'm not pulling this out of thin air, my dad works in a testing lab for Shell. Also, I did a science fair project on this stuff in high school and I competed on the State level with it. I'm not trying to sound like I know everything, I just wanted to establish my credibility .

thanks for the info just wounding because the CR says the 06 frontiers had 9.7to 1 most 87 octane trucksI`ve driven have had 9.1CR or less by the way is that 29 car going to win this year

There are numerous posts on this. Your owners manual for a 2007 says to use 91 or higher octane. This engine can significantly advance the timing and has variable valve control. Both will allow the engine to run more efficiently on higher octane gas. You'll notice this in power and staying in locked overdrive at lower speeds. You cvan run lower octane but the timing won't advance as far and you'll not use the full capability of the engine. In an engine that does not have this capability, 87 octane would be fine, althought the higher compression ration of the 4 liter would seeem to ask for at least 89.

thanks just put som 93 with the a half of 89 no change yet thaing long trip should do the trick or I`ll stick with 87 if an increased of higher octane works

I have run bottom octane, highest octane and lowest octane with octane
boost addiitive in the city and on the highway and offroad. There was zero c
hanges in any area. I have an '06 v6 with a manual. On the highway trips
the truck was loaded to the gunnels with a weeks worth of camping gear and
a conoe on top going through the mountains, the rockies that is. Half the
trip is major elavation gains with the last half being in 4hi all the way, 5
hours drivve each way when all is said and done. I'll not waste my money on
high octance in my baby any more.

hello found out that hi grade helped some but not really worth it btw it did help me get around someone quicker that about tee boned me but the people with red and blues on top of there car thought they should ticket me i was going faster than i should of

2005 & 2006 Owners Manual
Use unleaded regular gasoline with an octane
rating of at least 87 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number
(Research octane number 91).
For improved vehicle performance, NISSAN recommends
the use of unleaded premium gasoline
with an octane rating of at least 91 AKI number
(Research octane number 96).
2007 & 2008 Owners Manual
NISSAN recommends the use of premium unleaded
gasoline with an octane rating of at least
91 AKI (Anti-Knock Index) number (Research
octane number 96). If unleaded premium gasoline
is not available, you may use unleaded regular
gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87 AKI
number (Research octane number 91), but you
may notice a decrease in performance.
Interesting. None the less, I will continue to use 87 because I have yet to experience any knocking, performance loss or MPG gain.

My stealership told me to burn regular unleaded UNLESS I was towing. That's what I've done.

So does anyone have any input on octane grade for the supercharged 3.3?
I have a 2002 Frontier with that engine and have been considering trying a lower octane rather then the recommended premium, but I don't want to mess anything up.
