If a Frontier can handle 10,00 pounds of sound equipment or a 27 footer with twin 250's, then it can handle our modest 21 footer with a single 3.7 I4

I have never taken the time to see the weight it takes to make the rear sag. But you better believe when I was hauling the big system the truck was almost only on rear wheels lol. I was shocked that the truck did so well.

keep in mind that part of the tow capability rating of any vehicle is also
related to the brake system ability. Getting started is only half, the
battle, you still have to stop it at the end of the road as well. Trailer
brakes are good, but not that good, the truck still manages most fo the
load. Vehicle body mass also plays a major role in towing stability.
That's why the diesels are king. More weight means that it takes more
inertia in the payload to throw the tow vehicle off track. But you knew
that already as you are no stranger to towing.
Raw numbers indicate that the frontier would be a whole other world in
towing your boat compared to the van. The fronty also has four wheel
traction control in 4x4 and tracgtion control in 2wd too.
The tow package may be "underrated" for the weight, but that does not
mean it'll suddenly eject from the truck if you put more than the rating
on it. There is a huge safety margin built into the rating. They have to
cover their buts too. The rating usually means that you could get hit by a
missile and you would still hold your load, rollovers, t-bones, head-ons,
ditch dodges, jumps and sudden turns will be no worry "within" the load
limit.
As far as the rear dropping under load, it is meant to so that it can
maintian a soft streetable ride until you load it down. As soon as you
come onto the overload springs, it'll stop moving. It does take a lot, but
it is no 1-ton either. It'll still be better than your van. There are
upgraded spring pacs available that get rid of the o0verload, and just
increase the load right away and help the ride. 3 leaf pacs.(will create a
lift as well)
If you really decide you wqnt a towing monster, stick with the domestics.
They've been doing it a long time and are really good at it. Skip the
Tundra and Titan entirely.
The FJ cruiser should have the same payload and toewing as the Taco and
the fronty. They have the same engines basically and the weight is much
the same. A betetr comparison is the cruiser tothe xterra. The added
body weight is the culprit to the decreased tow capacity, not the drive
train. Ther is always lower gear options too. But i guess you could make
anything tow anything with enough cash and time.
Have fun.

I believe you friend was pulling your leg. 2700 pounds is double the total load capacity of my ’99 Frontier. And the center of gravity of the load is rated as being centered over the rear axle not on the rear of the truck.
BTW… CAP-Locks is against the posting rules
Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

It can be tricky to find a c rated tire because our stock size is meant for 1-
ton trucks. Or at least that is the largest market. So you'll run into a lot of d
rated tires in the oem size.
