I need to change the timing belt on my 00 Frontier with a 3.3 V6. The labor guide calls for only 3 hours. That seems a bit conservative to say the least. Is this about right?
It looks like the radiator/condensor removal is a most plus all of the other accesories.

Jglisson;
I sure could not do it in three hours! You should replace the water pump while you're at it. Here's a link that may be helpful:

Is it necessary to change the water pump? It doesn't appear to be driven by the timing belt. Also I don't understand why cam/crankshaft seals are necessary. Or is this just one of those things you should take of while you are down there?

I haven't done this job yet. It is a case of saving labor while you have it striped down... how long/many miles does a water pump last... Water pumps have seals, bearings and the impeller can be worn away by cavitation. It's your nickel.
Have a good New Year while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..
Laws such as the use of corn ethanol are driving up the cost of living (have you been to the grocery store lately) without driving up wages. This equates to a lower standard of living thanks to Agro-lobbyists and corrupt and ill-informed lawmakers

I do not know how long it would take to do the belt on the Nissan, but if you are going to have somebody else do the job, take it to the dealership.
I had my really reputable mechanic do the job, and the thing runs like crap. I think a tooth is off. I took it back to him and he says it is the distributor cap now. The thing ran fine when I took it there two weeks ago, why would the cap mysteriously become bad. Hmmm.. I doubt I will get him to admit it, so I will pick it up and take it to the dealership.

I have my three accessory drive belts, one timing belt, and one water pump. Do I need anything? The link for the "timing belt kit" didn't work for me. What else will I need?

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer!

Can someone refresh my memory concerning the timing belt tensionr. Behind the pulley there is a spring that has one end hooking into a hole on the back side of the tensioner and the other send rests on a threaded stud. Does the latter end of the spring rest above the stud or beneath it?
