I have towed my 2200 # tandem trailer with a 2500# car on it with 2
people and some gear in the cab over several Colorado mtn passes to
11,000 ft elevation with no apparent problems but that was in May so not
desert heat conditions. Truck cas a heap of power and is quite impressive
with the big load..... 2006 King Cab with 6 spd manual.

I was tackling the apalachians in western MD and WV, but it was still in the 1200mi break-in period. Cruise control set on 80 and 6th gear and 2 or 3 passes caused the cruise to disengage and I had to downshift. I haven't hit any big hills since, so I don't know if it was a part of the break in or what.

cruise will disengage if your speed drops more than 10 mph below the set cruise speed.

I know. What I'm saying regarding hitting high passes with a boat is I had trouble at 2,000ft with almost no load. 5th will be fine but 6th can't handle it

Why would you want to be in 6th gear when climbing passes? Guess I like
to run at higher revs...... comes from driving old two-cycle Saabs I guess.

Towed my 19 foot bass boat last weekend , the truck did fine , plenty of power . Will just take me a while to remember to hit the brakes harder and a little earlier . My 2003 Ford lightning had awesome brakes , you never knew your pulling anything at all , but the Frontier does a great job for a small truck !

I bought my '05 SE CC Auto last year with the intention of pulling a boat. Shortly after, I bought an 18.5' Ranger bass boat w/ 150 HP outboard Johnson. I honestly can't tell you exactly what it all weighs. I would estimate somwhere in the neighborhood of 2500LBS - 3000LBS. I was kind of concerned that I didn't go with 4 wheel drive for the sake of pulling my boat up ramps. To my surprise though, it pulls the boat out of the water with easy. I see people with bigger trucks having a harder time then I do towing similiar boats. Trips me out. I have had one problem though. I have gotten on a couple of the steeper grade ramps and had a bit of a hastle. Twice, backing in, the boat tried to pull my truck down the ramp. From a dead stop, tires locked, I started sliding. Little hairy. One of the times that happened, when I tried coming back out, I had to solicit the help of a couple guys to add some weight to the back of my truck. Once they sat over the rear tires, I pulled right out. I regularly tow the boat, with three other people and all our gear through the hills. Many times with the bed full. It has no problem handling all that weight. Not just on the road, but even up and down a boat ramp. I love the truck. It has exceeded all my expectations. I do think I might have been better off with 4x4 though. It might have helped me out with those steeper grade boat ramps. Then again, your guranteed to find better ramps then the those two. :-)

Yeah , I'm care on which ramps I use , no problems so far , but most of the ramps around the lakes that I fish are all pretty good . Some have a special coating or rough paving on them that is great , TN DOT has been using this on slick curves on some of the roads the last few years also .
I feel the same about the 4x4 , IF I had it to do over again I would get it and an LE trim .
The crappy BFG long trails aren't the best tire to start with , especially if you get them wet or the ramp is wet !!!
