Took My truck in tonight it was the soonest they could look at it. I will let everyone know what they find. Wish there was another dealership in my area because these guys are the worst. They told me they cant garentee they find anything wrong. Whats the deal with that? And nissan does not seem to care. Oh well.

Do you know somewhere other than the dealer to take it to? Maybe they could look at, not fix it, but at least tell you what's going on. Then take it to the dealer with the problem in hand.

Looks like i am going to have to take it to somewhere else to have the problem looked at because they said there’s nothing wrong. They claimed they drove it for four miles and drove it up and down the road at 60mph plus which is impossible because it is a one lane local street with lots of traffic. And they also did not put four miles on it they only put 1.3 miles on it. And they did not even put it up on the lift like i requested. They said they did not have the time to chase imaginary problems.

Let me ask did any of you guys notice a grinding at higher speeds prior to you taking your vehicles in for service? My truck started to make a grinding feel a week ago (Just as the temps droped) traveling at highway speeds. It feels like I have 4 wheel drive on at highway speeds. Could this be the same problem a leaking axel seal? |

DJRuss84 - Did you get anywhere with your question? I have the same problem, heavy noise & vibration through the vehicle at motorway speeds, or when i hit a bump or dip in the road the noise / vibration occurs... mainly in 4th or 5th gear... I have a post running about this problem, but nobody has answered it yet with any hint of what it might be! I suspect something simple, but not sure and I hear alot of horror stories about the consequences of a propshaft / rear axle failure.. I would appreciate your help..

Look closely at your brake calipers on your D40's. Got 28K on mine and my axle seal took a poop. Didn't notice for a while apparently, cuz when I finally noticed it was almost too late. Fortunately, there was no explosion in the rear before it was turned in to Nissan. Lucky me, it happened while it was still under warranty. They did some investigating and found (just before I was supposed to get it back) that the axle and rear diff were almost destroyed. Its hard to notice unless you are looking, no puddles or anything under the truck,in fact my wheel wasn't even oily. Just want to give a heads up. And may I add, Nissan's customer service has been nothing shy of the pitts. No loaner car, no matter how much I kick and scream.. They've had it for a week already and they say it'll be at least 4 to 5 more days. Arrrghhhh!!!! WHY DONT DEALERSHIPS HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THEIR VEHICLES??????? Happy Happy Joy Joy.... |

Why can't they overnite the parts??? Are they replacing the complete rear end assembly? If so, make sure they install a new vent(seen some guys leave the plug in the housing that is installed for shipping purposes only) this causes they seals to blow out real quick. I've been installing the older style nipple(from a Pathfinder) with the hose up to a GM style breather attached to the frame rail. Either the stock vents plug up or allow water to enter the diff-neither is good for a rear end.

Mine is in the shop for the same thing only difference is mine occured at 65K miles and is going to cost me $500, not to mention that my u-joint is also going and this requires an entire drive shaft replacement which by the way is another $500. This is all in addition to the $500 I spent in June to fix the vent control valve and the clutch fan that went at 50K. I won't even get into how many times it has been in the shop prior to these issues, but will say that a letter to Nissan Consumer Affairs has gotten me nowhere, except a copout excuse of the vent control valve and the clutch fan are "wearable" parts and Nissan was not willing to reimburse me. I'm waiting on the answer regarding assistance with the rear axle seals and the u-joint. It's a 2005, give me a break.
By the way K&N air intake made my gas mileage worse so far:-) |

U-joints are available separate, as long as there is someone competent to replace them. There is a filter kit available for the VCV to prevent future failure due to dust intrusion. I'd have to check, but it seems that a fan clutch should be covered under powertrain5yrs/60,000 ???? K+N are great for air flow, but do not filter all the dirt, which is very harmfull to the MAFS. Stick to the Genuine Nissan oil impregnated air filter. Do a search on the K+N, some guy did an extensive test on them. I've since removed them from any vehicle I have.
