Correct... My truck's an XE... no fog lights.  The kit that I have has two fog lights with mounting brackets (which I assume will work... haven't tried yet), a dash switch which fits nicely inside a blank dash hole, a relay which plugs into the harness, and the harness itself which has plug ends for each foglight, the relay, the switch, and then two wires... a black one and a red one with an inline fuse.

I put some fog lights on my 04, but I am not using them as fog lights. Im using them as "ground effects". The bright white lights are legal, where as the colored ones are not. Anyway...
Red with inline fuse goes to the positive on the battery, black wire goes to the chassis ground, or the negative on the battery. The relay is the tricky part. My lights did not come with a relay. There should be 4 prongs on the relay. Try hooking the wires up different ways to the relay and see which one works, or by-pass the realy.

From what I can tell (and I could be wrong) the relay prevents a surge of electricity from going through the switch in the cab and starting a fire, but so does the fuse...so I don't see the point of having the relay and the fuse.

Why are you so determined to have them wired into the truck's wiring so that they turn off when you turn on the highbeams? I know thats whats the trucks that come with fog lights come with do. Is it really a necessity? Cause if its not, that would make things a lot easier for you.

I'm not necessarily committed to wiring to the the highbeams... I thought maybe someone had encountered the problem before and had figured it out.  In which case, I'd do it.  But if not, I'll just wire them in to the positive terminal and ground.  And the relay has a plug in connector already.... no need to try to figure out which wire works with what.

Dannyg, yes there are a few manufacturers of aftermarket kits, and the one I bought is exactly that.  Mine came from an outfit on Ebay called K2motorsports.  There are other manufacturers.  I'm not so happy with mine only because it doesn't come with instructions.  I went to their website, k2motorsports.com , and found out they specifically don't offer instructions with any of their products because they "recommend" professional installation....????.... Anyway, be aware and shop around.  My kit does come with everything to install it, however a factory kit which would be a lot more money, would also allow you to have it wired to your high/low beams I would think, something my kit doesn't directly allow.  This thread is pretty much about how, if at all possible, to try to wire it so that I can have it shut off when high beams are activated but turned on when low beams are on.  I know... it's not a big deal... I'll be installing it as is when the weather clears up a little nicer anyway.

..

Fog lights should be designed and aimed parallel to the road and slightly down. The Idea is to prevent the light from reflecting from the fog so you will have better visibility. When aimed too high in the fog they will reduce your vision and blind oncoming traffic.

... My dad got a traffic ticket once for having them on when there was no fog. Some idiots, mostly women, drive with them on all the time. The electricity in your truck is not free. It takes a little more gasoline to run un-needed accessories. This includes sound systems…

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer!
