Hi, new guy here, I apologise if this is in the wrong section.

I just wanted to know if anyone had these lights on their Frontier and/or if anyone has pictures of these lights on a Frontier. I'll be buying one in a couple months, and I'm quite keen to get these lights for my new truck.

Thanks,

Bob :)

I haven't seen any pictures, but I am interested in seeing them installed.  I have been thinking about getting some for my 04.  I have seen these lights on ebay for $100 less than the link you posted.

Thanks for your reply. I believe these lights also come with a HID/Xenon conversion kit, hence the higher price ;)

I'd love to see these in person or get an opinion from someone.

A projector lamp is by far superior to the headlights in my 06. It's almost worth it to go for it....

I didn't get the Halo projection light, but have purchased the HID conversion kit.  There are two type for your Frontier.  One will only give you the low beam, which sucks because whenever you want to flash the car in front of you or the opposite direction, your light would turn off.  The other is Hi/Lo beam component, which will swing the bulb up to give you high beam when you want to flash.  The type of bulb in your Frontier is 9007.

I purchased the first type, found out it sucks so I got the second type on the way.  ED is Feb. 20.

Believe me, this is much better.  If any of you want the pictures of those, let me know, I'll try to add them.

Actually there are 3 types of HIDs.

2 you mentioned, and the third offered by most that a 2nd element will light up, increasing the light.  Usually this element is built on the top of the bulb so it clears the sheild to give that high beam effect.

BTW... how much did you spend on yours?

The only thing to watch out for Bob.au, is the quality of the light assembly can be worthless.  I just got a set of headlights in for my F-250, and I ended up modifying the mounting system because a lot of the tabs broke off.

Also, usually about 90% of those, you have to wire the LEDs into the system, and they never send instructions with them.

Agreed, You'll most likely have to hook up the LEDs to your turn signasl/running lights.

The quality is my major concern.

BTW IMO retroing HIDs into an OEM system is wasted $. I can't see any more ligtht getting down the road which is what I would want from a HID system.

I'd suspect you'll get a lot of drivers flashing you from the light scatter you get from the OEM reflectors/HID system.

I went with PIAA Super Plasma GT X bulbs (claiming 110/120 watts )and other than a whiter light didn't find I got more illumination.

The only way to get more light concentrated where you want it (on the road) is to have a projector headlight. Even using halogen bulbs,  good quality projectors are by far superior to our OEMs. That is why the original post is of interest.

Actually, I will have disagree on that.  I put a HID system into a OEM housing on my Toyota Highlander.  And it only cost me $210.

Even using a 10k system the light output is far greater than that of my stock system.  I actually have yet to have someone flash me for having brights, unlike before when I would have to use my Fogs with my stock bulbs just to get decent light, people would always flash me because my fogs were blinding them.

If you're interested, the guy I bought them from is here on the forum.  Do a member search for Co-Way.  The Bi-Xenon kit will run you more than my single kit, but I was absolutely amazed at how much of an improvement they were.

BTW... this is the beam pattern from my 10k HID.  Camera phone, so the image quality isn't that great.  But you can see where the light lands.

kcidmil;

Thanks for the info on your HID conversion.

I remain sceptical about using HIDs in our reflectors. Reason being is light scatter. A projector light system focuses light down onto the road. The ones I've used have a definite cutoff.which allows for more light where you need it and reduces glare to oncoming drivers.

My 06 Frontier light system does have a cutoff on the beam pattern but it is fuzzy and indistinct. If I was to increase wattage or go to the HID retro, I fear I would be blinding oncoming drivers.

I find it interesting about your comment not getting flashed so it does give me pause.  I wonder if its because, the 10K bulbs you are using don't put out as much light as a 4300-5000K bulb would. The purple colour of your headlights might not appear as bright to oncomig drivers.

As I said this is just my opinion.

Hugh
