Does anyone own any of the throttle body spacer brands? I am considering adding it to my '05 Frontier, but wanted to get your opinions on this alleged "whistling" that comes with the TBS' installation. When you rev, how loud/annoying is this whistling that occurs? I already have a magnaflow cat-back and a K&N CAI installed. Thanks in advance!

i have read on another nissan forum that people were talking about the difference b/w the two TBS's that apparently are out there for the fronty, the AirRaid and the Street performance one, they indicated that one made more of a whistling noise than the other, but above that was the debate about whether or not they even made a differene on our MPFI engines, something else to consider before you spend the 100 bucks or so on one...

the Throttle body spacer is a one ince piece of medal that has some threads on the inside that goes between your throttle body and your manifold. The threads create a vortex with the air that is supposed increase the speed and amount of air getting to your engine. There are many brands of spacers out there and basically all the whistling means is that they are working. Some brands may be louder but that also depends on the engine size. There is a spacer called the Motorvator that is supposed to be silent. But i have an PowerAid spacer from AirRaid and that works great with my truck. You learn to love the whistle. And you can still add these even if you have cold air intakes and other mods, they just add on to the power that you are already getting.

Save your money, they don't do anything on a fuel injected engine. It works great if you have carbs.

04desertrunner is partially right from what i've gathered....
The way a TBS is supposed to work is increase the distance/turbulence/velocity of air traveling into the intake manifold and thus help create a better fuel/air mixture increasing combustion performance...i.e. "atomize" the fuel better....and on throttle body injection engines as some old school fuel injection systems were it might still have some good effects as far as performance (tho that alone probably wouldn't make a huge difference), however on multi-port fuel injection engines like ours plus the fact that the intake manifold is curved and all that, it has been widely debated and claimed that it's not a big gainer for our engines
about the only thing i could see would be removing your intake manifold and "rifling" the inside where it enters before combustion....tho i wouldn't recommend that....
if i am way offbase on any of this, some of the more experienced people, feel free to correct me please

Frontyfan;
... I will totaly agree with you.
Some people claim to be able to 'feel' an increase of power. Air conditioner pumps eat 10 to 20 horse power. I can feel it kick and out in on our 1.8 4 banger Sentra. I hardy notice it in my 3.3 Frontier. Never notice it working in my 6.4 Wagoneer with a brand new york installed..
Years ago I home made a 'G' meter. I could tell if a mod made the rod would accelarate faster. Now I just leave the mill stock and I have money(real) in my pocket, a fat bank account plus a clean card
Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

I can see what you all are saying. And to add to that i really dont know much when it comes to mechanics and engine work, I'm just barely starting to learn all that stuff. But i have felt a difference when it comes to the spacer that i put on my truck. I admit that when i compare it to my friends Dakota, his works and sounds a lot better than mine. But I still feel it in my truck.

I can tell you from experience that this motor does not breathe as well as it should at either end...lol Crawl underneath and look at the exhaust system, then look in the engine bay at the intake. Neither is very efficient and designed to quiet engine noise. I would recomend new intake, exhaust, and cams. Other than that leave it stock. Possibly switch to synthetic oils. Other than those items you won't see much in gains...well at least dollar to horsepower.
