Went to work this morning and turned on the heater and my blower motor began to "growl".  At you increased the speed, it growled lower and I could tell, not much air was being moved.  When I came out of work it did the same thing and then quit all together.  Checked the fuse in the engine compartment and it seemed ok.  Tried it again and it growled a little bit and quite again.  I assume my blower motor is shot.  The truck had 62,000 miles and of course is out of warranty.  Is the blower motor hard to replace and would one from a salvage yard be the way to go.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bruce

Took the blower motor out (it was easy, just three screws) and tried it outside of the housing and it turned pretty fast at the various speeds, but it would also slow down and speed up.  I have different speeds, not like some of the posts about blower motors where there is only one speed and it appears to be the resisterthat is attached to the motor.  Put it back in and tried it and it would not spin unless you banged on the housing and then it would start, but with that growling sound.  I don't know if it is the motor itself or something else?????

It sounds like you need a new motor. The symptoms  you described are the results of worn-out brushes inside the motor.
