I have a 2005 Crew Cab without the factory rack, now I would like to carry more items from bikes to ladders to weekend project lumber.

Has anyone found a bed rack that will fit this tiny truck, I would love to install a Thule Xsportster rack; however, they say it won't work with the unitrack.  Thule does make an adapter for the Toyota Tacoma (because of its unitrack system).

I am also looking at bed racks that extend over the cab (T-Rac with extension), but every product I find (after I call and ask) says it will not fit the small Frontier crew cab bed.

Does anyone have a bed rack that works for this truck?

I use a yakima outdoorsman rack on mine. I also have a yakima basket on
my roof rack and the full sized outdoorsman matches the height of it. I
carry lumber and ladders daily with no troubles.

Just bought a 2011 Frontier SL yesterday, but I have been researching racks for a few weeks.

There are now two basic options: permanent, or removable:

Permanent: If you want a normal lumber rack that bolts in permanently, contact "Rack-It" in Shingle Springs, CA. )There are a couple of similar-sounding companies, so be sure of their home address to amke sure you get the right company.)

They make one specifically for the Nissan Frontier 2011 and earlier models with the same short bed. I think it is model #1028. It's about $600 or so. They sell through dealers like Campway etc.

You may have to remove the small roof rack if you have an SL, not sure on this though. The Rack-its do go over the cab, but they may be high enough to go over the SL factory-installed roof rack.

Removable: There are 2 new products by "US Rack" that may be perfect for you. I'm planning on getting one pair myself.

One is called a "Rail Truck Rack", the other is a "Utility Truck Rack". They are basically a pair of welded metal sawhorse type set-ups, which sit on the bed rails, but CLAMP onto the utili-trac rail. So, NO bolts! And you can put them on or take them off in five minutes or so, they say.

With a 5ft bed, one can put 4x8 plywood, sheetrock, etc. and 8ft long 2x4's, ladders up to 8ft long etc., in the bed, and let it hang up to 3ft over. I live in the hills outside San Fran., so I leave the tailgate UP, so things don't fall out as I head up a hill. I just put a red flag taped to the wood, etc.

But for 16 ft long 2x6's, etc., long pipe, I was thinking I need a "Rack-it" rack I mentioned above. I had one on a Ford Ranger, it is great. About 12ft long. But the Frontier looks so nice I was looking for a removable set-up. SO... The US Rack options are probably what I'll be getting.

These are custom-made for Frontier short bed (also models for Titan, Tacoma, etc) utili-trac.

Of course, as the bed is only 5ft long, one has to try to set the height so it matches the roof rack if one has an SL. If it does match up (the US Racks have adjustable height), then carrying anything up to 16ft long would be good, as long as the total load is not over about 300lbs.

Phone number for US Rack is 1-888-877-2257. Website is www.usrack.com . Take a look at model series 2007-2 and 2002-2.

Each pair is about $400, with free shipping if you buy direct. You can also by one, if you just want a headache rack (near the cab).

Amazon also offers ihese exact same racks, but you then have to pay about $40 for shipping, so it's best to go direct.

I'll be getting mine (removable ones) in a few weeks or, I think. If anyone has these already, please post here.

So, those two companies are the best sources I found so far.

Have fun!

Elliot
